PHILADELPHIA –
Gavin Rowan (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) scored a beautiful late goal in the Holy Family men's soccer team's season-opening 5-1 loss to West Chester on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.
The sophomore's
left-footed strike from beyond the top right of the box curled into the top left corner in the 84th minute.
The score was 1-0 five minutes into the second half before West Chester struck twice over the course of just over 12 minutes.
The Golden Rams would then sandwich Rowan's late score with two more of their own.

How it Happened
First Half
- The afternoon's first shot was by WCU an even nine minutes into play, and the Golden Rams had three more shots over the next six-plus minutes, the final of which forced the afternoon's first save by Myers
- West Chester opening score just over 17 minutes into play came after Myers made a save on a free kick attempt, as a Golden Ram was waiting right in front of net to tap it in
- Holy Family's best chance came late in the 19th when Joel Richmond (Bridgetown, Barbados/Church Farm) fizzed a cross across the face of net
- Sean Touey (Rockledge, Pa./Abington) produced the Tigers' first shot in the 24th minute, with Lautaro Berriso recording HFU's only other of the half a little less than two minutes later
- The only save over the final 25 minutes came just over six minutes ahead of the break
Second Half
- Holy Family had the first three shots out of the half, including back-to-back efforts by Dakota Taylor (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Will Stackhouse (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) in the 49th, but less than three minutes later WCU converted a penalty to double its advantage
- Taylor had an effort saved less than two minutes after the penalty, before the Golden Rams would make it 3-0in the 63rd
