PHILADELPHIA –
Dakota Taylor (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) made a darting run from midfield in the second minute of the second half, driving into the box and beating the goalie to the near post for what would turn out to be the only goal in the HFU men's soccer team's 1-0 victory over East Stroudsburg on Wednesday night at Tiger Field.
The defense took over from there in a performance that saw the Tigers limit the Warriors to just two attempts on frame.
Inside the Box Score
- Both Taylor and Joel Richmond (Bridgetown, Barbados/Church Farm) had double the amounts of shots on goal as the entire ESU team
- Taylor's six total attempts were triple the amount of any other player, while Richmond's four were double
- Both teams had 13 shots on the night, five in the first and eight in the second, but the Tigers had 10 on frame
- Tyler Myers (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) stopped both attempts he faced to preserve the shutout
How it Happened
First Half
- After East Stroudsburg registered the night's first two shots in the opening six minutes, Taylor had two attempts saved over the course of just under seven minutes in the 11th and 18th, sandwiching a shot on goal by Sean Touey (Rockledge, Pa./Abington)
- Those were the only three attempts on goal in opening 45 minutes
Second Half
- East Stroudsburg' lone shot in the first 24 minutes of the period was blocked six and half minutes out of the break
- Holy Family had the next six attempts, five of which were on frame as Richmond was denied three times over the course of 11:50
- Gavin Rowan (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) had an effort cleared off the line 40 seconds later in the 69th
- The Tigers' last shot of the game was again an attempt saved by Richmond in the 76th
- Myers was then forced to make his first save just over a minute later
- That began a stretch in which the Warriors had the final six attempts over the last 13:11, with Myers' other save coming with one a half minutes remaining
- The Holy Family defense then secured the shutout by blocking two attempts in the final 1:19
