ALLENDALE, Mich. – Nishorn Pierre (Grenada/Jamaica College HS) finished second in the high jump at the NCAA Division II National Championships inside the Grand Valley State Lacrosse/Track & Field Stadium.
Pierre jumped 7' 8.19"(2.19M) at the NCAA National Champions to finish in the second place in the high jump. He broke the school record that he set earlier this year in the regular outdoor season. This will be the first time in program history a Tiger competed at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and earned a podium.
Head Men's and Women's Track and Field Coach Dwight Brandon stated, "We are all so proud of Nishorn, we expected him to jump 7' and knew that would put him in the top eight, which would make him an All-American. However he exceeded our expectations and jumped 7'2.25" and came in 2nd in the nation, which is fantastic. I would like to give Coach Best a lot of credit for working with him day in and day out to help him achieve this goal."
Pierre mentioned," It feels great, it doesn't even seem real right now, but at the end of the day everything came together at the right time and I'm grateful to have competed and place second. GOD IS GOOD!"
With him finishing second overall in the high jump, he also earned an All American status for the first time in program history.
