Tigers Sweep on Senior Day

BENSALEM, Pa. -  The Holy Family University softball team swept Dominican College on Sunday afternoon in a conference double header.  The Tigers took game one 1-0 and came from behind to take the second 5-4.  Holy Family also honored its five seniors Elaina Hansen (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional), Jasmine Martinez (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Polytechnic), Ashley Remington (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II), Abigail Smith (Elkton, Md./Red Lion Christian Academy) and Stephanie Uribe (San Diego, Calif./Liberty Charter High) in a ceremony between games

How It Happened (Game 1)
 
* The first four innings were scoreless for both teams before Holy Family plated a run in the bottom of the fifth.  Freshman Emma Clayborne (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) doubled to centerfield to score freshman Lauren Hagy (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) who singled to get on base.  The two hits were the only ones the Tigers would get the entire game.
 
* Senior Ashley Remington (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) kept up her dominance in the circle not allowing any runners to cross the plate over the next two innings to clinch the win.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 1)
 
* Remington struck out six and allowed only four hits in the shutout.  It was her second consecutive day pitching a complete game shutout.
 
* Kyra Weins recorded the loss for Dominican allowing only one run off of two hits.  She struck out 12.
 
 * Jenna O'Reilly led all hitters with two hits.  As a team, the Chargers totaled four hits.


How It Happened (Game 2)
 
* Dominican was the first to strike in game two playing a run in the second off an RBI single from Haylee Redmond Ridge.
 
* Just an inning later Hansen tied it up with an RBI double to left.
 
* The Chargers scored a run in both the fourth and fifth to go up 3-1.  The Tigers tied it up again in the bottom of the inning scoring off a throwing error and an RBI single from Hansen. 
 
* It was Hansen again that helped plate two in the sixth when she singled to centerfield giving Holy Family the 5-3 lead.
* Domincan loaded the bases in the top of the seventh but were only able to score a run off a fielder's choice making it 5-4 but Junior Makenna Patterson (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) and the Tigers' defense made the plays to end the game with the one point lead.
 

Inside the Box Score (Game 2)
 
* Patterson pitched all seven innings allowing three earned runs off of nine hits while striking out seven.
 
* Holy Family totaled seven hits as Hansen led all hitters going 3-for-4 with four RBI.
 
* Dominican's Samantha Carbonara recorded the loss in relief pitching 1.1 innings allowing two earned runs off of four hits.  Starter Paige Sasser went 4.2 allowing three earned runs off of three hits. Both struck out three on the day.
 
* The Charger's total nine hits with Ridge, Rebecca Haggerty and Kamryn Raya each notching two hits.
 

All-Time Results
Today marked the 46th and 47th meetings between Holy Family and Dominican since the start of the 1998 season.  The Tigers are now 17-30 versus the Chargers in the all-time series.

Holy Family returns to action on Monday when they host Chestnut Hill College for a conference doubleheader.  First game is slated for 2 p.m.
