Remington Tosses Shutout in Split with Lightning

WILMINGTON, Del.– The Holy Family University softball team split a conference double header Saturday against Goldey Beacom College.  Senior Ashley Remington (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) pitched a complete game shutout in game one to lead the Tiger to victory.

How It Happened (Game 1)
 
* Holy Family scored the only run of the game in the top of the first when senior Abigail Smith (Elkton, Md./Red Lion Christian Academy) led off with a double to left field.  Lightning pitcher Morgan McLane then scattered two wild pitches over the next two batters to allow Smith to score.
 
* Both McLane and Tigers' senior Ashley Remington (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) shut down the offenses to keep the game to only one run.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 1)
 
* Remington had her best outing of the year pitching a complete game shutout striking out a season high 12 while allowing only one hit.
 
* McLane was also strong on the day despite taking the loss allowing only four hits from Holy Family while striking out seven.
 
 * Smith and Remington along with freshmen Alexis Letizia (Toms River, N.J./Donovan Catholic) and Sam Ciasullo (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) each recorded a hit on the day.


How It Happened (Game 2)
 
* Letizia hit a two run bomb to open up the game in the first putting the Tigers up 2-0.  A throwing error in the bottom of the inning allowed Goldey Beacom to make it 2-1.
 
* In the second, a two-RBI double from Smith capped off a three run inning to put Holy Family up 5-1.
 
* Three hits, including doubles from Hannah Davis and Nicole Makin,  in the bottom of the second was all that was needed for the Lightning to score five runs and go up 6-5.
 
* Goldey Beacom scored four unanswered runs in the third capitalizing on two Holy Family errors to make it 10-5.  The offenses settled down after that with the remaining four innings scoreless.
 

Inside the Box Score (Game 2)
 
* Ciasullo took the loss in the circle going three innings allowing 10 runs, though only four were earned.  Junior Makenna Patterson (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) came in relief for the final three innings allowing only one hit.
 
* The Tigers recorded six hits with Letitzia and junior Maria Leedom (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy (Shippensburg)) leading with two each.  
 
* Goldey Beacom's Gwen Safin notched the win in relief pitching 5.2 innings allowing no runs and four hits.
 
* The Lightning totaled seven hits with Makin, Davis and Chrissy Jordan each recorded two hits.
 

All-Time Results
Today marked the 47th and 48th meetings between Holy Family and Goldey Beacom since the start of the 1998 season.  The Tigers are now 32-16 versus the Lighning in the all-time series.  

Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Sunday when they host Dominican College for a conference doubleheader.  First game is slated for 12 p.m.
