Women's Lacrosse Battles Past Wilmington, 15-14

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team defeated Wilmington University 15-14, in a CACC conference contest on Tuesday evening at Tiger Field.

Score: Holy Family 15, Wilmington 14

How It Happened

  • Payton Pugh (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) and Rianna Shields (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) started the game with one goal a piece.
  • The Wildcats answered with three goal to take a quick lead before Shields scored to the tie the game at 3-3. Mackenzie Santucci (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional (RCBC)) would score two back to back man-up goals to take a 5-4 lead. The Wildcats would score a goal to cut the Tigers lead to one to end the first period.
  • Wilmington and Holy Family to would exchange goals to tie the game at 9-9 at the 9:23 mark of the second period. But the Tigers would score three unanswered goals to take a 12-9 going into halftime.
  • The Wildcats scored the first goal of the second half, but the Tigers scored to two goals led by Pugh and Shields to take a 14-10 lead.
  • Wilmington would score four goals in the fourth, and hold Holy Family to one goal, for the Tigers to win the game. 

Inside the Box Score

* Shields led the Tigers with five goals and one assist. 

* Santucci scored four goals and picked up three ground balls.

* Lynn Hardy (Audubon, N.J./Camden Catholic) put in three goals, notched one assist and won eight draw controls.

* Pugh scored three goals and picked up three ground balls.

*  Junior goalkeeper Caitlyn Musick (Bensalem, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) finished with nine saves for the Tigers.     

All-Time Series

This evening marked the 23rd meeting between Holy Family and Wilmington since the start of the 2009 season.  The Tigers are now 14-9 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series.

Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, April 23 as the Tigers host the  Post University in the last CACC conference contest.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
