Tigers Fall Short to Golden Bears, 17-10



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest to visiting Kutztown University by the score of 17-10 on Wednesday evening at New Tiger Field.

How It Happened
 
* Kutztown outscored Holy Family, 4-0, in the first quarter as the Golden Bears scored their first four goals all within the first seven-plus minutes of the quarter.  Lexie Jackson scored two of the four goals in the quarter.
 
* Holy Family cut the deficit in half scoring two goals to open the second quarter.  Senior Tatceyana Pulley (Edgewater Park, N.J./Burlington City) scored the team's first goal at the 9:36 mark before freshman Payton Pugh (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) fired in her first collegiate goal at 6:50 to make the score 4-2.  Senior Mackenzie Santucci (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional (RCBC)) assisted on both scores.
 
* Kutztown responded with two unanswered goals to take a four-goal once again at 6-2.  However, Holy Family answered back thanks to two goals by Santucci.  Her second goal came at 2:38 to make the score 6-4. 
 
* The Golden Bears capped the scoring in the first half with a goal from Shannon Lake with less than two minutes remaining to make the score 7-4 heading into halftime.
 
* In the third quarter, Kutztown scored four of the first five goals of the quarter including three straight to open to lead 11-5 by the midway point.  The Golden Bears would go on to take a 12-6 lead into the fourth quarter after Lailah ElBouazzaoui scored with four seconds left on the clock.    
 
* Holy Family made it a four-goal game early in the fourth quarter with Santucci and Pulley both scoring within the first two minutes of the quarter. 
 
* With the score 12-8, Kutztown added back-to-back goals by Rory Nilsen and ElBouazzaoui to increase its lead to 14-8.  After a goal by Pulley, the Golden Beards connected on two more goals to lead 16-9 with less than five minutes to play in regulation.
 
* Both teams would exchange goals in the final three minutes to cap the scoring in the game.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* It was a career night for Santucci as she totaled a career-high seven points.  She scored a season-best five goals and assisted on two other scores. 
 
* Pulley tied her career-high with three goals in the game. 
 
* Senior Yasmine Machlof (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) and Pugh also scored for the Tigers.
 
* Junior Lynn Hardy (Audubon, N.J./Camden Catholic) led the team with four ground balls, while junior Kaitlyn Bromley (Philadelphia, Pa./New Foundations Charter School) tallied three ground balls.  Hardy and Bromley each caused a turnover on defense.
 
* Sophomore Tori Wolstenholme (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) controlled a career-high seven draws and also assisted on a goal. 
 
* Junior goalkeeper Caitlyn Musick (Bensalem, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) made seven saves in net for the Tigers.
 
* For Kutztown, ElBouazzaoui recorded a team-high six points on five goals and one assist.  She also tallied a game-high 13 draw controls.  Sam Graf came away with three goals and two assists for five points. Goalkeeper Jenna Blesson made seven saves.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the sixth meeting between Holy Family and Kutztown since the start of the 2013 season.  The Tigers are now 1-5 versus the Golden Bears in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action a week from tonight as the Tigers host St. Thomas Aquinas College in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 5 p.m.
