Tigers Edged by Spartans, 16-15



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team suffered a 16-15 setback to St. Thomas Aquinas College in a non-conference contest on Wednesday evening at Tiger Field.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family trailed 14-11 in the final minute of the third quarter but turned the game into a two-goal differential entering the fourth. Junior Lynn Hardy (Audubon, N.J./Camden Catholic) scored her first goal of the game off a free position attempt with :24 seconds remaining in the quarter.
 
* The momentum carried over into the final frame as senior Tatceyana Pulley (Edgewater Park, N.J./Burlington City) connected on the first of two goals in the fourth.  Pulley scored at the 13:14 mark to make the score 14-13.  Later in the half, Pulley found the back of net for the second time as the Tigers took advantage of man-up opportunity.  Pulley's goal tied the game at 14-14 with 6:43 to play. 
 
* Minutes later the Tigers found themselves in a man-up scenario and capitalized off the opportunity.  Junior Madeline Curran (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) tied gave the Tigers the lead at 15-14 after converted a free-position shot with five minutes to play in regulation.
 
* Less than a minute later, it was STAC's turn to take advantage of a man-up opportunity.  The Spartans' Alexa Paternoster came through with a free-position goal to tie the game at 15-15.
 
* With under two minutes to play, STAC's Julia Reggio caused a turnover near the Tigers' net and in turn got a shot off to give the Spartans' a 16-15 lead with 1:46 left on the clock.
 
* Holy Family won the ensuing draw and senior Mackenzie Santucci (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional (RCBC)) fired a shot on-net but STAC's goalkeeper Colleen Stevens made the stop.  Sophomore Tori Wolstenholme (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) gave the Tigers one last opportunity as she caused a Spartans' turnover on the next possession.  Santucci ripped a shot to potentially tie the game but Stevens once again made the save to preserve the one-goal win.
 
* Holy Family's largest lead of the game came at 7-4 late in the second quarter after three straight goals by Santucci.  The Spartans cut the deficit down to 7-6 by halftime scoring two goals in the final two minutes of the half.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Pulley and Santucci each recorded a team-best four points in the game.  Pulley finished with three goals and one assist, while Santucci tallied a team-high four goals. 
 
* Wolstenholme scored a season-high three goals to go along with two caused turnovers.
 
* Junior Lynn Hardy (Audubon, N.J./Camden Catholic) led recorded 10 of the team's 18 draw controls.  She also had three ground balls and two caused turnovers on defense. 
 
* Junior goalkeeper Caitlyn Musick (Bensalem, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) finished with 16 saves for the Tigers; one shy of her career-high.
 
* For the Spartans, Leanna Iobbi led the game with six points off five goals and one assist. Micaela Ross added four goals.  Reggio recorded a game-high five ground balls. Stevens had 14 saves in net.
 
All-Time Series
This evening marked the sixth meeting between Holy Family and St. Thomas Aquinas since the start of the 2009 season.  The Tigers are now 0-6 versus the Spartans in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, March 19 as the Tigers host the University of the District of Columbia in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 12 p.m.
