Pierre Hits NCAA Qualifying Mark in High Jump at Stockton Invite

Galloway, N.J. – Holy Family University freshman Nishorn Pierre (Grenada/Jamaica College HS) hit the NCAA qualifying mark for nationals in the high jump as the men's track & field team opened the Outdoor Track & Field season at the Stockton Invite hosted by Stockton University at G. Larry James Stadium.

Meet Highlights

* Pierre wasted no time setting the tone for the outdoor season as he finished first overall in the high jump with a school record height of 6'11" (2.11m). His height surpassed the NCAA Division II provisional minimal standard of 2.05m. Pierre currently ranks second in the nation trailing only West Texas A&M's Hamdi Alamin for top height in the event. Alamin holds the top mark of 6'11.75". A maximum of 24 individuals and minimum of 20 will receive at-large selections to the NCAA Championships in individual events.

* Not to be outdone, Pierre also won the long jump event with a winning distance of 22' 1" (6.73m)

* Freshman Udoka Odoemene (Sicklerville, N.J./Overbrook (Rowan Univ.)), in his outdoor collegiate debut, broke the school record in the shot put event after recording a winning distance of 51' 0.25" (15.55m). Odoemene shattered the record held previously by Thomas Mandese of 42' 10.25" (13.06m) set at the 2013 Stockton Invite. Odoemene also competed in the discus event and finished fifth overall with a distance of 125' 7" (38.28m).

* Junior Terrence Jones (Newark, N.J./William Allen) picked up victories in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles. In the 110-meter hurdles, Jones recorded a time of 15.76 seconds; just shy of his school record time of 15.62 seconds set last year. Jones went on to win the 400-meter hurdles with a winning time of 59.25 seconds. He also competed in the long jump and finished third overall with a personal-best distance of 21' 1.25" (6.43m).

* Sophomore Nafis Zollicoffer (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway West) finished sixth overall in two events, including the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. In the 100-meters, Zollicoffer recorded a personal-best time of 11.71 seconds. He finished the 200-meters in a time of 23.33 seconds.

* In the 400-meters Vicenté Velez (Philadelphia, Pa., Father Judge) and Rojay Silburn (Brooklyn, N.Y./Boys & Girls) eached finished in the top-10. Velez finished in 52.66 seconds, while Siburn crossed the finish line in 53.41 seconds.

* Senior Blake Impagliazzo (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) finished fourth overall in the discus with a distance of 125' 8" (38.30m).

* Senior MJ Powlowicz (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) set a personal-best in the 1,500-meters as he finished seventh overall in a time of 4:20.24.

* The 4x100-meter relay team of Silburn, Micah Cooper (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot), Noah Chinye (Largo, Md./Skylight HS (Prince George's CC)) and Reyes finished third overall with a time of 44.77 seconds.
