Tigers End Skid with Win at GCU



Lakewood, N.J. – The Holy Family University men's basketball team ended its five-game losing streak after defeating Georgian Court University, 62-53, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Wednesday night at the Wellness Center.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family closed out the final 3:34 of the game with a 17-7 to pick up the victory.  Trailing 46-45, junior Kharon Randolph (Philadelphia, Pa./Haverford School) hit a three to allow the Tigers to regain the lead.  Randolph would add another three points on the Tigers' next possession after being fouled on a layup basket.  He converted the free throw and as a result increased the Tigers lead to 51-46 with 3:05 to play.
 
* Holy Family increased its lead to as many as nine points down the stretch when Randolph converted another three-point play to make the score 56-47 at the 1:40 mark.  Randolph scored 13 of his 16 points in the final 3:34 of the second half.
 
* A three-pointer by the Lions made it a 56-50 game with 1:22 to play.  However, the Tigers were a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line in the final minute to hold off the Lions.
 
* Holy Family held a 12-point lead in the first half.  The Tigers went on a 9-0 run to lead 19-7 at the 7:16 mark of the opening half.  It marked the largest lead of the game by either team. Holy Family would lead 29-22 at the half.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Junior Eric Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell Egan) led all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field.  He also grabbed seven rebounds to go along with three assists.
 
* Randolph finished the game with 16 points with 13 of his points coming down the stretch in the second half.
 
* Freshman Manny Toha (Newark, N.J./Marist) also scored in double-figures as he totaled 13 points.
 
* Freshman David Robinson, Jr. (North Wales, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) totaled eight points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
 
* For GCU, Jelani Jackson came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points after knocking down three three-pointers. Davon Floyd totaled 12 points, six rebounds and five steals.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 16th meeting between Holy Family and Georgian Court since the start of the 2014-15 season.  The Tigers are now 12-4 versus the Lions in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 12 as the Tigers host Nyack College in a CACC contest.  Game time is set for 8 p.m. at the Campus Center Gymnasium.  Saturday's game is also Alumni Day for Holy Family basketball.
