Spring Games: Day Two Recap



Winter Haven, Fla. – The Holy Family University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests on day two of the team's Florida trip at The Spring Games.  The Tigers fell to the University of Bridgeport, 6-0, earlier in the morning and then came up short versus Davenport University, 6-1.

How It Happened vs. Bridgeport
 
* Bridgeport's Kaira Ramon drove in the game's first run in the top half of the third inning with a double to center field.  Meg McFarland scored on the play after reaching base with a two-out single.  McFarland then stole second base right before Ramon's double.
 
* The one run was all Bridgeport's starting pitcher, Erin Lifrieri, needed limited the Tigers' offense to just two hits in the game and only three baserunners.  Lifrieri picked up her first collegiate win after throwing seven scoreless innings. 
 
* The Purple Knights tacked on another run in the fifth to make it 2-0 and then plated three runs in the sixth inning for a five-run advantage.  Three different batters drove in runs in the sixth.  A run scoring single in the seventh inning by Taylor Yates capped the scoring for Bridgeport.

* Freshmen Dana Moser (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan (Stockton)) and Emma Clayborne (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) each tallied a hit for the Tigers.
 
* Senior Ashley Remington (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) (0-1) went five innings and was the pitcher of record for Holy Family.  She finished the game with five strikeouts.
 
* For Bridgeport, McFarland (2-3) and Yates (2-4) each had multiple hits in the game.
 
How It Happened vs. Davenport
 
* Holy Family freshman Sam Ciasullo (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) (0-1) had a no-hitter through 4.2 innings before Davenport finally got one in the hit column.  Lindsay Goodman doubled down the leftfield line for the Panthers first hit of the game. Emma Embry followed with a single to right field to plate the game's first runner and give Davenport a 1-0 lead in the fifth.
 
* In the sixth inning Davenport blew the game open with five runs to take a 6-0 lead.  Rylie Kalina highlighted the inning with a two-run single. 
 
* Holy Family avoided the shutout thanks to a run scoring double by freshman Lauren Hagy (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan).  Freshman Jalecia Blackston (Levittown, Pa./Bucks County Technical) scored on the play after drawing a two-out walk to reach base.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Moser and Clayborne each went 1-for-3 in the game as both players finished the day with a pair of hits between the two games. 
 
* Blackston went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored, while Hagy finished 1-for-3 with the team's lone RBI.
 
* For Davenport, Embry went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Kalina went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. 
 
* Davenport's Ellie Muilenburg (1-3) struck out eight batters in the complete game effort to earn her first win of the season.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 14th meeting between Holy Family and Bridgeport since the start of the 2005 season.  The Tigers are now 5-9 versus the Purple Knights in the all-time series. Holy Family and Davenport were meeting for the first time.
 
Next Up
Holy Family will continue its Florida trip with another pair of non-conference contests tomorrow starting at 12:15 p.m.  The Tigers will open with the University of Charleston and then face Gannon University at 2:30 p.m.
