CHAMPIONS! Tigers Take Home First-Ever ECC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Banner



RESULTS

Staten Island, N.Y. – The Holy Family University women's indoor track & field team edged out Georigan Court University by five points in the final standings to claim the program's first-ever conference championship as the Tigers took home the 2022 East Coast Conference (ECC) Championship banner on Saturday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island. The Tigers finished with 107 points in the standings, while the Lions finished second with 102 points. 
 
Meet Highlights
 
* It all came down to the 4x400-meter relay to determine this year's ECC Champion and the quartet of Nyoki Jones (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder), Kahdia Jones (Daytona Beach, Fla./Atlantic), Shania Le Maitre (Champs Fleurs, Trinidad & Tobago/Holy Name Convent) and Kai B. Lash (Montrale, N.J./Pascack Hills) did not disappoint.  The Tigers finished first overall in a season-best time of 4:00.36 to earn the 10 points in the standings and as a result was able to finish with 107 points to claim the title.  With the first-place finish, all four earned All-ECC first team honors in the event.
 
* In the 400-meters, Kahdia Jones (Daytona Beach, Fla./Atlantic) finished first with a personal-best time of 58.97 seconds.  The first place showing earned her All-ECC first team recognition.  Freshman Genelle Heyward (Queens, N.Y./Francis Louis) also earned All-ECC honors as she finished third overall in a time of 1:01.75 for second team status. Jones also earned All-ECC second team honors in the 200-meters after finishing third overall in a time of 26.22 seconds.  Freshman Ariel Salkey (Queens, N.Y./Francis Lewis) joined her on the second team as she finished fourth overall in 26.41 seconds.
 
* Nyoki Jones (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) and Lash finished first and second respectively in the 500-meters to earn All-ECC first team honors.  Jones finished in a winning time of 1:19.49, while Lash recorded a time of 1:19.74.
 
* Le Maitre came away with a first-place finish in the 800-meters to earn All-ECC first team honors in the event.  She finished in a time of 2:21.68.
 
* In the shot put event, junior Korryn Braxton-Young (Wilmington, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) earned All-ECC first team honors for the first time after winning the event. She finished with a winning distance of 38' 6" (11.73m). 
 
* Freshman Ashiek Sewell (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) finished third overall in the long jump as she recorded a distance of 16' 3" (4.95m).  Her third-place showing placed her on the All-ECC second team in the event.
 
* Also earning All-ECC second team honors is Jillian Gatley (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) who finished third overall in the pole vault.  Gatley recorded a distance of 9' 0.25" (2.75m). 
 
* Junior Shanell Pusey (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Matanzas) finished fourth overall in the 60-meter hurdles.  Pusey recorded a time of 9.79 seconds to earn All-ECC second team accolades in the event.
 
* The Distance Medley relay team of Zane' McNeil (Pleasantville, N.J./Charter Tech), Lash, Desiree Draper (Philadelphia, Pa./John W. Hallahan Catholic) and Emma McNamee finished third overall with a new school record time of 13:28.20.  The previous record was set at the last ECC Championship in 2020 when the Tigers finished in a time of 13:50.08.
 
News and Notes
 
* Holy Family won four individual events and one relay at this year's ECC Championship.  The Tigers also accumulated six other medalists on the way to the top spot.
 
* Holy Family had 10 individuals and one relay earn All-ECC honors; the most ever in program history topping the team's seven All-ECC individuals at the 2020 championship.
 
* As a team, the Tigers had 24 individuals place in the top-10 in their respective events setting a new program record in the ECC Championships
