Tigers Drop Season Opener at Shippensburg



Shippensburg, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener at Shippensburg University by the score of 15-5 in a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon at Robb Sports Complex.

How It Happened
 
* Shippensburg opened the game with a 6-2 first quarter advantage.  With the game tied 2-2 the Raiders scored four unanswered goals to close out the final eight minutes of the quarter.
 
* Junior Lynn Hardy (Audubon, N.J./Camden Catholic) opened the scoring for the Tigers with the first goal of the second quarter to make the score 6-3.  However, the Raiders would hold the Tigers scoreless the rest of the quarter while taking an 8-3 lead into halftime.
 
* Shippensburg scored three goals in the third quarter to lead 11-3. The Raiders nearly held the Tigers scoreless in the quarter before freshman Rianna Shields (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) scored her second goal of the game with seven seconds remaining in the quarter.
 
* The Raiders increased their lead to as many as 10 goals after outscoring the Tigers, 4-1, in the final frame.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Hardy and Shields each scored two goals to lead the Tigers offensively.  Hardy also recorded three ground balls and controlled four draws. 
 
* Freshman Sarah Spaeth (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) recorded a game-high six ground balls while causing one turnover on defense.
 
* Sophomore Tori Wolstenholme (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) led the team with a game-high five draw controls to go along with two ground balls.
 
* For Shippensburg, Jena MacDonald recorded a game-high six points on three goals and three assists.  Alana Cardaci finished with a game-high four goals and one assist for five points.   
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the third meeting between Holy Family and Shippensburg since the start of the 2013 season and the first since 2018.  The Tigers are now 1-2 versus the Raiders in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 26 as the Tigers travel to face Molloy College in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 12 p.m.
