Tigers Fall to Lightning in Overtime

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University men's basketball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest to visiting Goldey-Beacom College, 80-78, in overtime on Wednesday night at the Campus Center Gymnasium.

Records: Holy Family (9-18, 4- 13 CACC) | Goldey-Beacom (14-12, 10-7 CACC)
Location: Philadelphia, Pa. (Campus Center Gymnasium)

How It Happened

* Goldey-Beacom opened overtime with a 9-2 run to lead 78-71 with 1:20 left in the extra period.  Holy Family would go on to make it a one possession game when freshman Manny Toha (Newark, N.J./Marist) converted a pair of free throws to make the score 80-77 with :23 seconds remaining.

* With five seconds remaining, Toha grabbed a key defensive rebound after two missed free throws by the Lightning.  Goldey-Beacom fouled right away to send Toha to the free throw line rather than potentially allowing the Tigers to get off a game-tying three-pointer.  Toha made the first free throw and intentionally missed the second attempt, but the Lightning's Kevon Ferguson got the rebound.  Ferguson missed both free throws with less than two seconds left as time expired.

* Holy Family led by as many as 25 points in the game when the Tigers held a 52-27 advantage at the 13:27 mark of the second half.  Leading 31-23 at the half, the Tigers opened the second half with a 21-4 run over the first 6:23 of the half.

* Over a nine-plus minute stretch, Goldey-Beacom went on a 31-7 surge to come within two points of tying the game with four minutes to play in regulation.  A layup by Juran Ligonde made the score 60-58.

* Holy Family increased its lead to 66-60 when junior Kharon Randolph (Philadelphia, Pa./Haverford School) converted a pair of free throws with less than two minutes.  Over the next minute, the Lightning went on a 7-0 run to take the lead for the first time since leading 21-18 at the 5:25 mark of the first half.

* Randolph recaptured the lead when Randolph came through with a deep three-pointer with :15 seconds remaining to give the Tigers a 69-67 advantage.  On the ensuing possession, the Lightning tied the game with a Mekhi Collins jumper in the paint with seven seconds on the clock to force overtime.

* Holy Family overcame an 11-point deficit in the first half after the Lightning opened the game with a 12-1 run.  The Tigers would go on to outscore the Lightning, 30-11, to lead 31-23 at the half.

Inside the Box Score

* Randolph was one of four players to score in double-figures for the Tigers.  He scored a team-high 21 points after knocking down four three-pointers in the game.  Junior Rick'Keem Mixson (Linden, N.J./St. Mary of the Assumption (Raritan Valley CC)) finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Toha totaled 13 points and five boards.  Freshman David Robinson, Jr. (North Wales, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) also scored in double-figures as he came away with 10 points.

* For Goldey-Beacom, Ligonde recorded a double-double with 31 points (12-20 FG) and 14 rebounds.  Nazim Derry added 13 points, while Mekhi Collins contributed eight points and 11 rebounds.

All-Time Series
