Women’s Basketball Rides Dominant First Quarter to 20-Point Win Over Caldwell

PHILADELPHIA – The HFU women's basketball team outscored Caldwell 22-4 in the first quarter en route to a 74-54 victory over the Cougars on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Ava Morrow (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) led all players with career-bests of 10 rebounds and five assists
  • Lindsay Tretter (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) fell one point shy of a game-high with 15 points, adding six rebounds and four assists
  • Jenn Kokolus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) was one point behind her with a season-best 14 on 5-of-7 field goals, to go along with seven boards
  • Jessica Riepe (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) also scored a season-best, 13, on 5-of-8 shooting and 3-of-6 3-pointers 
  • Moe Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) was one rebound behind Morrow, adding a game-high three steals
  • Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) made it four Tigers in double-figures with 10 points on 5-of-9 field goals, to go along with six caroms
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Holy Family outrebounded Caldwell 57-31 for the Tigers' most boards since they had 64 in a win at Felician on Jan. 3, 2015
  • HFU held the Cougars to 32.8 percent shooting, the eighth time a Tigers' opponent has failed to reach 40.0 percent
 
How it Happened 
First Half
  • Prevost opened the scoring with a hook shot 28 seconds in and aside from Caldwell momentarily tying the score at 2-2, HFU led for the final 37:39
  • The Tigers would hold the Cougars scoreless for 6:06 after their first basket, scoring 16 unanswered to establish an 18-2 advantage when Tretter scored her 10th first quarter point on a triple with an even two minutes showing
  • Kokolus then scored the final four points of the period, including beating the buzzer for a 22-4 score-line entering the second
  • Riepe opened the second with a 3-pointer to build a first-half-high 21-point advantage
  • Caldwell battled all the way pack to within 27-38, but Tretter closed the half with two free throws for a 40-27 cushion
Second Half
  • The Cougars got as close as nine twice, including at 36-45 with 4:53 left in the third, but baskets by Prevost and Moore quickly made it a double-digit lead for good
