Men’s Basketball Returns from Break at Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University men's basketball returned from its holiday layoff with a 70-86 loss at Chestnut Hill on Thursday afternoon. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • David Robinson Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) led the Tigers with 14 points and seven rebounds
  • Rick'Keem Mixson (Linden, N.J./St. Mary of the Assumption (Raritan Valley CC)) recorded 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting
  • Aamir Hurst (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann Goretti) and Malik Archer (Philadelphia, Pa./Mathematics,Civics & Science Charter School (Beaver County CC)) both scored 10, with Archer adding five boards
  • Jake McGonigle (Ocean City, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) and Eric Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell Egan) both tallied a team-high two assists, while Tazir Cantey (Lindenwold, N.J./Eastern Regional) led HFU with two steals
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Holy Family outscored CHC 36-34 in the paint, but the Griffins shot 52.5 percent from the field (23-of-61) and 8-of-17 from beyond the arc (47.1 percent)
 
How it Happened 
First Half
  • After nine unanswered gave CHC a first-half-high 19 point-lead, 19-38, 3:56 ahead of the break, HFU scored 11 in a row, capped by back-to-back 3-pointers by Nate Conyer (Pemberton, N.J./BCIT Medford Tech) and McGonigle, to make it a single-digit deficit with 14 seconds left in the half
  • The Griffins would beat the buzzer though, re-establishing a double-digit advantage, 33-43, entering the locker room
 
Second Half
  • Holy Family opened the second with a 9-5 spurt to get as close as six, 42-48, on back-to-back layups by Archer, but CHC immediately came back with the next six points to take a double-digit lead for good
