Men’s Basketball Closes Out 2022 Against Caldwell

PHILADELHPIA – The HFU men's basketball team closed out the calendar year with a 53-74 defeat to Caldwell on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.  
 
Individual Highlights
  • Tazir Cantey (Lindenwold, N.J./Eastern Regional) led the Tigers with 11 points off the bench
  • Malik Archer (Philadelphia, Pa./Mathematics,Civics & Science Charter School (Beaver County CC)) led all players with a season-best four steals
  • Jake McGonigle (Ocean City, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) tied a game-high with four assists
  • Eric Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell Egan) led Holy Family with six rebounds, to go along with three steals
  • David Robinson Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) was second on the Tigers with nine points, with Rick'Keem Mixson (Linden, N.J./St. Mary of the Assumption (Raritan Valley CC)) adding eight 
 
How it Happened 
  • Caldwell scored the first five points and led throughout 
  • Robinson Jr.'s layup completed a 7-1 stretch to get Holy Family within 18-20 with 9:15 remaining in the first half
  • The Cougars responded with eight points to establish the first double-digit advantage, which would last for the remainder of the afternoon outside of 40 seconds
  • Trailing by 20, 25-45, 1:36 into the second half, Phil Brown Jr. (Hillside, N.J./Hudson Catholic (District of Columbia)) scored four points in an 8-0 surge that got HFU as close as 33-45 with 16:09 to play
  • A Cantey layup also made the score 38-50 with 13:48 showing, but the Tigers were unable to get within single digits
