Dominant Defense Leads Women’s Basketball to 61-37 Win Over 6-1 East Stroudsburg

PHILADELPHIA – The HFU women's basketball team held a 6-1 East Stroudsburg team to 37 points on 29.3 percent shooting in a 61-37 victory over the Warriors on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points on 5-of-9 field goals and 2-of-2 3-pointers 
  • Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) was the only other player in double-figures with 10 points
  • Moe Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) led all players with seven rebounds and five assists, to go along with seven points
  • Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) contributed nine points, five rebounds and four assists, while matching Hinkle with a team-high two steals
  • Jessica Riepe (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) scored eight points on 3-of-4 field goals and 2-of-3 3-pointers off the bench
  • Anujin Dashdorj (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) notably matched her career-best with four boards
 
Inside the Box Score
  • In addition to the dominant defense, Holy Family did not allow East Stroudsburg to attempt a free throw
  • The Tigers outrebounded the Warriors 45-28 and held a 27-12 edge in bench points
 
How it Happened 
First Quarter
  • The two teams exchanged five lead chances and three ties in a period that ended with ESU on top 10-13 after beating the buzzer with a 3-pointer
Second Quarter
  •  The two teams opened the second exchanging baskets, before five straight Hinkle points put the Tigers on top for good
  • The Warriors momentarily got within one, 17-18, midway through the quarter, but HFU would go on to hold them scoreless for five minutes
  • During those five minutes four Tigers scored 11 points, capped by a Hinkle layup for a first-half-high 12-point advantage, 29-17, in the final minute
  • Despite East Stroudsburg beating the buzzer with a triple once again, the Tigers carried a 29-20 advantage into the locker room thanks to wining the quarter 19-7
Second Half
  •  ESU opened the second half with a layup, but seven was as close as they could get as HFU held the Warriors scoreless for 6:09 while scoring seven to establish a double-digit advantage for good when Lindsay Tretter's (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) trifecta made the score 32-22 with 6:25 left in the third
  • The lead reached as large as 28, 58-30, when Dashdorj made a jumper with 4:13 to play
