Freshman Lead Women’s Basketball to Championship Game of Rollins Classic with Overtime Win Over Regionally-Ranked Lincoln

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Freshmen Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) and Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) combined for 52 points on 18-of-22 shooting as the HFU women's basketball held off regionally-ranked Lincoln 98-95 in overtime on Friday evening to advance to the championship game of the Rollins Classic.

Individual Highlights
  • Searfoss led all players with a season-high 38 points on 12-of-15 field goals and 14-of-17 free throws to tie for the highest point total in Division II this season   
  • Hinkle added a season-best 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting
  • Lindsay Tretter (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Moe Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) were both in double-figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively, with Moore adding game-highs of nine rebounds and six assists
  • Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) matched Moore with nine boards, to go along with nine points

  • Holy Family shot 51.5 percent from the field, 34-of-66, and tied a season-best with 25 foul shots, compared to the Lions' 15
 
How it Happened 
First Quarter
  • HFU scored the first four points and never trailed, including 21-10 after 10 minutes of play as the Tigers ended the period with a Hinkle 3-pointer and Searfoss buzzer-beating layup 
Second Quarter
  • The advantage reached as large as 15, 27-12, when HFU scored six of the first seven points, beginning with a Jessica Riepe (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) triple and ending with a Hinkle jumper
  • The lead remained in double-digits until the final two minutes of the half, when Lincoln got as close as five twice, including at 34-39 in the final minute
  • Holy Family closed the quarter with the final four points though, with Hinkle beating the buzzer for a 43-34 halftime advantage
Third Quarter
  • The Tigers then opened the second half with six of the first eight points, stretching the second half lead to as large as 13 twice, including at 51-38 when Searfoss made a jumper 2:25 out of the locker room
  • The Lions were able to make it a one-possession contest, 57-59, for the first time since the opening quarter on an and-one in the final minute, but once again the Tigers had an answer with the final five points, highlighted by Hinkle beating the buzzer once more for a 64-57 advantage
Fourth Quarter
  • HFU was able to maintain a two-possession advantage until the final 5:42, when Lincoln completed an 8-0 surge to get as close as one, 69-70, with 5:14 left
  • The Lions had the chance to take a lead, but a Searfoss steal and 3-point play re-established a 73-69 advantage with 4:36 left
  • That began a stretch of seven straight points, as the Tigers held Lincoln scoreless for 4:16
  • Tretter's free throw made the score 77-69 with 1:10 to go, but the Lions were able to make it a one-possession game one again at 77-80 with 31 seconds showing
  • Lincoln then made it a one-point contest, 81-82, on an and-one with just 13 seconds left and after a Searfoss foul shot, the Lions made a game-tying driving layup two seconds before the regulation buzzer
Overtime
  • Holy Family scored the first eight points of the extra period, four of which were by Ava Morrow (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley), who opened the scoring with a 3-pointer before making a free throw later for a 91-83 advantage with 1:59 to play
  • Lincoln again fought back to within one, 95-96, on an and-one with 22 on the clock, but two Searfoss foul shots and a defensive stop finally sealed the victory
