PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University women's basketball team defeated University of the District of Columbia 77-66 in its home-opener at the Campus Center on Wednesday evening.
Individual Highlights
- Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) led HFU with a season-best 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting and added seven rebounds
- Ava Morrow (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) was two points behind her for a new career-high, which included making 3-of-6 3-pointers
- Jessica Riepe (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) made it three Tigers in double-figures as she made 4-of-7 field goals, while also pulling down a career-best eight boards
- Those eight rebounds were one shy of Moe Moore's (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) game-high nine, with Moore also leading HFU with four assists, one ahead of Searfoss and Anjelai Hayes (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury), and a game-high two steals
- Lindsay Tretter (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) contributed nine points and seven boards
- Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) and Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) tallied seven points apiece, with Jenn Kokolus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) adding six
- Freshmen Emma Ingersoll-Weng (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West) and Claire Dougherty (Lehman, Pa./Lake-Lehman) both made their home debuts

How it Happened
First Quarter
- Eight unanswered led to UDC's largest lead, 6-12, halfway through the opening period
- HFU would score 11 of the final 14 points in the quarter, the first seven of which were by Searfoss, before she also closed the period with a layup for a 21-17 score-line
Second Quarter
- Hinkle and Riepe then made back-to-back baskets to open the second, completing a 15-2 surge
- The Firebirds got as close as one twice, but Morrow scored five straight points to re-establish a 34-28 advantage 3:57 ahead of the break
- Tretter then scored five straight of her own for the evening's first double-digit advantage, 39-29, 1:24 later
- Moore's layup three seconds before the buzzer made the score 44-33 entering the locker room
Third Quarter
- The lead reached as large as 14, 50-36, when Prevost made a layup 3:49 into the half
- UDC fought back to within seven, 46-53, with 2:52 remaining, but Searfoss' layup 37 seconds ahead of the fourth re-established a double-digit lead, 59-49, entering the final period
Fourth Quarter
- Holy Family scored the first six points of the fourth, but again the Firebirds pulled within single-digits, 59-67, with 4:19 remaining
- Riepe's 3-pointer just over a minute later, following two offensive rebounds, finally made it a double-digit game for good
