Franklin Pierce Responds to Women’s Basketball’s Third Quarter Run with One of its Own

STATEN ISLAND – The Holy Family women's basketball team made a third quarter push to nearly erase a double-digit deficit, only to have Franklin Pierce respond with one its own en route to a 62-51 win over HFU on Sunday afternoon.  
 
Individual Highlights
  • Lindsay Tretter (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) was the lone Tiger in double-figures with 10 points and was one of four Tigers with a game-high two steals, joining Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery), Moe Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and Ava Morrow (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley)
  • Prevost added nine points on 4-of-6 shooting and Jessica Riepe (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) finished with eight
  • Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) led Holy Family with seven rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench
  • Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) paced the Tigers with four assists, with Moore adding three
  • Emma Ingersoll-Weng (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West) notably scored her first collegiate basket
 
Inside the Box Score
  • HFU outscored the Ravens 16-7 in second-chance points, despite getting outrebounded by 11
  • FPU outshot the Tigers 43.5-31.5 percent and held a 26-14 edge in points in the paint
 
How it Happened 
First Quarter
  • Prevost opened the scoring with a layup in the first minutes, but the Ravens scored the next 10 points to go ahead by eight 4:26 in
  • Holy Family chipped away with the four straight points and got within six, 8-14, when Hinkle closed the quarter with two free throws
Second Quarter
  •  The two teams alternated points over the first half of the second period, until seven unanswered established a first half-high 13-point lead, 14-27, on a 3-pointer 3:15 ahead of the break
  • An Anujin Dashdorj (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) 3-pointer four second before the buzzer cut the deficit back to single-digits, 22-31, heading into the locker room
Third Quarter
  • Prevost opened the second half with an and-one just 37 seconds in, beginning a rally that saw the Tigers get as close as two, 32-34, when Tretter nailed a triple with 7:41 showing
  • FPU immediately responded with the next eight points though, res-establishing a double-digit advantage, 42-32, with 3:31 on the clock
  • Tretter's layup momentarily made it a single-digit game again, but this time the Ravens scored 10 straight to open up an 18-point lead 45 seconds ahead of the final quarter
  • Franklin Pierce then answered an HFU free throw with one final basket, capping a 20-3 run for a 19-point advantage, 54-35, entering the fourth
Fourth Quarter
  • The Ravens built a game-high 22-point lead, 62-40, midway through the final period, before the Tigers scored the final 11 points, highlighted by two trifectas from Riepe
