PHILADELPHIA – A trio of Tigers set new career-highs in blocks, with Holy Family setting a new season-best as a team, in a four-set victory (25-16, 22-25, 25-21, 25-10) over Chestnut Hill at the Campus Center on Wednesday evening.
Individual Highlights
- Zoe Krause (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) fell two kills shy of a match-high with a career-best 14 on .385 hitting
- Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) was also in double-figure with 12 kills, while Isabella Mosquera (West Chicago, Ill./Saint Charles East) added eight on .412 hitting
- Mosquera also tied Skylar Osenkarski (Harding, Pa./Holy Redeemer) with a match-high seven blocks, a career-best for the two
- Morgan Steck (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) had six blocks, also a new career-best, to go along with a match-high 39 assists and 11 digs for her sixth double-double of the season
- Faith Zehnder (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) led all players with a career-best four aces, while also leading HFU with 14 digs
- Mainerys Munoz (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) made it three Tigers in double-figures for digs with 11
Inside the Box
- Holy Family out-blocked CHC 14-4, setting a new season-high in both total blocks and block assists (24)
- The Tigers also out-hit the Griffins .261-.035, the third-lowest hitting percentage by an HFU opponent this year
How it Happened
First Set
- Holy Family scored six of the first eight points, with Osenkarski setting the tone at the net with back-to-back blocks to open the match
- Hartney had three points in the stretch
- Chestnut Hill got as close as 14-16, but a Shelby Kinzer (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) kill sparked a 9-2 run to close out the set
- Both Kinzer and Osenkarski had two points in the stretch
Second Set
- The Griffins would score the first eight points to lead throughout
- Trailing by as many as 14, HFU made a valiant effort to pull within two, 22-24, after a 7-1 surge, but CHC would finally convert a fourth set-point
Third Set
- Four straight Krause kills capped five unanswered that put Holy Family ahead 10-6
- Three consecutive Chestnut Hill points gave the Griffins a 13-14 advantage, and the two teams would trade three ties and three lead changes before a Kruase kill capped three unanswered for a 19-17 lead
- Again the Griffins came back, regaining a 19-20 advantage with three straight points of their own, only to have the Tigers end the set on a 6-1 flurry
- Krause had the first two points on kills before Osenkarski and Steck combined for back-to-back blocks to close out the set
Fourth Set
- Chestnut Hill momentarily led 2-1, but it was all Holy Family from there
- Mosquera had two service aces in a 6-0 stretch that ended with the Tigers on top 12-5
- Later, Zehnder had three aces and Hartney three points as part of eight unanswered that began a set-ending 10-1 run
