Hartney Reaches 1,000 Kills in Volleyball’s Sweep of Goldey-Beacom; Tigers’ Win Streak at Eight

PHILADELPHIA – Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) became the eighth student-athlete in program history to reach 1,000 career kills, highlighting the HFU volleyball team's sweep of Goldey-Beacom (25-8, 25-20, 25-13) on Tuesday evening at the Campus Center. 
 
The victory extended the Tigers' win streak to eight matches.
 
Individual Highlights
  • Hartney finished with nine kills, one shy of Shelby Kinzer's (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) match-high 10, which came on .667 hitting
  • Faith Zehnder (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) led all players with 12 digs and a career-best four aces
  • Morgan Steck (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) had more than double the amount of assists of any other player with 31, to go along with three aces
  • Skylar Osenkarski (Harding, Pa./Holy Redeemer) tied for a match-high with two blocks 
  • Isabella Mosquera (West Chicago, Ill./Saint Charles East) contributed five kills and a season-best three aces
  • Kyla Sayson (Sewell, N.J./Gloucester Institute of Technology) also tied a season-best with three aces
 
Inside the Box 
  • Holy Family's 14 aces were a new season-high
  • HFU limited Goldey-Beacom to -.051 hitting, a season-low by opponent
    • The Tigers swung .297, its second-highest percentage of the year
  • Holy Family had double the amount of points, kills and assists as the Lightning
 
How it Happened
First Set
  • The Tigers opened the evening with nine of the first 10 points, including two each from Hartney and Steck
  • Later, Sayson had two aces in a 7-0 stretch as the lead reached as large as 24-7 
Second Set
  • Goldey-Beacom were up by as many as three twice, including at 6-9, and the Lightning continued to lead at 10-12
  • Hartney would have four kills in a 6-1 surge that put HFU ahead for good though
  • GBC did manage to get as close as 20-21, but kills by Ashley Petrasovic (Queens, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy Memorial) and Steck highlighted the Tigers scoring the final four points
Third Set
  • Again, Goldey started quick with four of the first six points
  • The Lightning still led 5-6 before HFU rattled off nine straight on Zehnder's serve, including three aces
  • The Tigers closed out the match with the final seven points, featuring two each from both Mosquera and Kinzer
