PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University volleyball team held off Caldwell in three close sets (25-23, 25-23, 25-21), sweeping a second straight opponent to extend its win streak to five on Saturday at the Campus Center.
Individual Highlights
- Morgan Steck's (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) 40 assists were double the amount of any other player, tied for her second most this season and were a career-best for a three-set match
- With a match-high 10 kills, Shelby Kinzer (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) led a balanced attack that featured four Tigers reaching at least eight kills
- Faith Zehnder (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) led all players with 15 digs, with Kayla Sayson also finishing in double-figures with 10
Inside the Box
- Holy Family had 15 more kills than Caldwell, 45-30, while outhitting the Cougars .223-.092
- The 45 kills were a new season-best for a three-set match
How it Happened
First Set
- Four straight points, capped by a Krause kill and Isabella Mosquera (West Chicago, Ill./Saint Charles East) service ace, gave HFU its first four-point lead of the set at 16-12
- The Tigers also led by four at 20-16 following a Osenkarski kill and Kinzer ace, only to have Caldwell battle back to within 20-21
- The Cougars also got as close as one at 22-23, but each time it was a Hartney kill re-establishing a two-point cushion
- Caldwell got as close as one a final time at 23-24, but this time it was a Mosquera kill securing the set
Second Set
- The Cougars jumped out to an 8-3 advantage, before leading by as many as six, 9-15, following four consecutive points
- A Holy Family timeout led to a 5-1 surge that featured two points by Mosquera
- The Tigers first tied the score at 19-19 thanks to back-to-back kills by Osenkarski and Hartney, before takings its second lead of the set, 21-20, on a Mosquera kill and Caldwell error
- The two teams traded the next three points, before back-to-back kills by Krause and Kinzer gave HFU set-point
- The Cougars staved off the first, before Osenkarski made it 2-0 with a kill
Third Set
- Seven unanswered that featured two kills apiece from Osenkarski and Hartney put Holy Family ahead 17-7
- Caldwell battled all the way back to within two on four occasions, including at 21-23, but each time HFU had an answer as a Natasha Yanief (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) kill gave the Tigers their first match-point, which they converted
