Second Half Run by Cougars Derails Tigers on the Road



Caldwell, N.J. – A second half rally by Caldwell University lifted the Cougars to a 68-57 victory over the Holy Family University women's basketball team in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Saturday afternoon at the Newman Center.

How It Happened
 
* With less than four minutes remaining in the third quarter and trailing 47-37, Caldwell's Paula Dits drained a three-pointer that jump started a 14-3 run to close out the quarter.  Jessica Wagoner capped the scoring as she knocked down a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Cougars a 51-50 lead entering the fourth quarter.
 
* Holy Family regained the lead early on in the fourth after graduate Megan Hughes (Point Pleasant Boro, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro) made two free throws to give the Tigers a 54-53 advantage.  On the next Caldwell possession, Dits hit a jumper that started another surge for the home team.  The Cougars went on an 11-0 run to lead 64-54 with less than three minutes to play in regulation. 
 
* Caldwell outscored Holy Family, 38-19, in the second half.
 
* Holy Family led the majority of the first half and led by as many as 16 points late in the second quarter at 36-20.  The Cougars chipped into the lead in the final two minutes of the half and made it a 38-30 game at halftime. 
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Moore recorded her fourth double-double of the season as she led the Tigers with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Lindsay Tretter (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) also scored in double-figures as she finished with 10 points and one board shy of a double-double with nine setting a new career-high.
 
* Hughes and sophomore Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) each came off the bench to score eight points apiece.  Hughes also grabbed five boards, while Prevost controlled four rebounds.
 
* For Caldwell, Dits scored a game-high 24 points (9-16 FG) to go along with a team-high eight rebounds.  Casey O'Shaughnessy added 16 points, while Rebecca Morrison finished with 11 points.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 28th meeting between Holy Family and Caldwell since the start of the 2002-03 season.  The Tigers are now 21-7 versus the Cougars in that span. 
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 11 as the Tigers head to Delaware to face Goldey-Beacom College in a CACC contest.  Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
