Odoemene Breaks Two School Records at NYC Gotham Cup

Staten Island, N.Y. – After over a month hiatus, the Holy Family University men's track & field team returned to action as the Tigers competed at the annual NYC Gotham Cup on Friday held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island.

Meet Highlights

* Freshman Udoka Odoemene (Sicklerville, N.J./Overbrook (Rowan Univ.)) broke two of his own school records to highlight the afternoon. Odoemene set new marks in the shot put and weight throw events. In the shot put, he recorded a distance of 46'11.75" (14.32m) to finish fourth overall. The distance broke his previous best of 46'10" (14.27m) set at the Fastrack Season Opener in December. Odoemene recorded a distance of 46'2.5" (14.08) in the weight throw to finish 13^th overall. His previous record was 45'5.25" (13.85m) set at the Seahawk Shootout in the team's last meet before the Winter Break.

* In the high jump, freshmen Skyler Salay (Burlington Township, N.J./Burlington Township) and Ty Brown (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) each recorded a height of 6'2.25" (1.89m). Salay, who tied his season-best in the event, finished fifth overall in the final standings, while Brown finished seventh overall.

* Freshman AJ Anderson (Bloomfield, Conn./Bloomfield HS) recorded a top-10 finish in the triple jump. Anderson finished ninth overall with a distance of 41' 8.5" (12.71m). He also competed in the long jump and finished with a distance of 20' 7.25" (6.28m) (18^th).

* Sophomore Reymond Reyes (Jersey City, N.J./William L. Dickinson) tied his career-best in the 60-meter hurdles as he finished the preliminaries in a time of 8.98 seconds. He nearly broke the school record of 8.88 seconds.

Holy Family returns to action on Friday, Jan. 28 as the Tigers compete in the Great Dane Classic hosted by the University of Albany at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complete. Meet is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
