Tigers Cruise Past Lightning for Sixth Straight Win



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to six straight after defeating Goldey-Beacom College by the score of 3-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Wednesday night at the Campus Center Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* After taking the first set, 25-20, the Tigers cruised the rest of the match with double-digit victories in both the second and third sets.  In the second set, the Tigers led 4-2 and went on an 8-0 run to take a 12-3 advantage.  The Tigers then followed with 10 unanswered points to increase the lead to 22-3.  An 18-1 run in total propelled the Tigers to a 25-10 victory in the second set.  The Holy Family defense held Goldey-Beacom to just one kill in the entire set.
 
* The surge carried over into the third set as the Tigers opened with a 13-1 run and never looked back. Holy Family limited the Lightning to four kills in the third set.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* As a team the Tigers recorded 11 aces on the serve; one shy of the season-high set over the weekend at Georgian Court University. Senior Camille Johnson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) tied her career-high with five aces to lead the team.
 
* Junior Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) led the match with nine kills, while senior Tayana Bennett (Philadelphia, Pa./Hill-Freedom World Academy) added seven kills on 14 total attempts.  Bennett committed just one error on the attack to finish with a .429 attack percentage.  Johnson and sophomore Natasha Yanief (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) each added six kills.
 
* Sophomore Faith Zehnder (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) finished with a team-high 16 digs, while junior Maeve Boylan (Ridley Township, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) totaled 11 digs. Boylan also had three aces in the match.
 
* Senior Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) paced the offense with 31 assists while recording nine digs on defense.
 
* The 14 total kills by the Lightning were the least allowed by the Tigers this season.
 
* Goldey-Beacom's Shayla Boyce led the team with six kills, while Neyshilian Roman Concepcion finished with a match-high 21 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 35th meeting between Holy Family and Goldey-Beacom dating back to the 2003 season.  The Tigers are now 27-8 versus the Lightning in the all-time series and hold a 27-match winning streak in the series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Friday, Oct. 1 as the Tigers host Felician University in a CACC contest.  Match time is set for 8 p.m.
