How It Happened

* Georgian Court won the fourth set, 25-21, to force a fifth and decisive set.  The Lions went on a 9-3 run after the Tigers scored the first two points in the fifth set to lead 9-5.  Holy Family jump started a 4-0 spurt with a kill by sophomore Natasha Yanief (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson), which was then followed by three straight Georgian Court miscues that tied the set at 9-9.  The Lions would go on to lead again at 12-10, before three straight points highlighted by a kill from setter Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) gave the Tigers the lead once more at 13-12.  A bad serve by the Tigers gave the Lions a point that tied the match at 13-13 but on the ensuing rally junior Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) connected on a kill to set up match-point.  The Tigers earned the final point of the match on the following serve thanks to an attack error by Kinsy Haschke.

* Holy Family dropped the first set of the match (22-25) but bounced back to take set two (25-21) and set three (25-15).  In the second set, Holy Family led 14-13 and went on an 8-3 run to take its biggest lead of the set at 22-16.  Despite Georgian Court five of the next six points in the set, the Tigers held off the rally and clinch the win with a service ace by Mainerys Munoz (Stafford, Va./North Stafford).

* In the third set the Tigers used a big run to pull away from the Lions.  Trailing 5-4, Holy Family went on a 10-2 surge to lead 14-7.  The Tigers largest lead was late in the set at 24-14 before exchanging points with the Lions to win the set, 25-15, off a kill from senior Tayana Bennett (Philadelphia, Pa./Hill-Freedom World Academy).  Holy Family totaled 14 kills in the third set and committed just two errors for a .429 attack percentage.
