Tigers Finish Third at CACC Championships

RESULTS

Lakewood, N.J. – The Holy Family University women's track & field team finished tied for third at the seventh annual Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championships hosted by Georgian Court University on Sunday at the GCU Track & Field Complex.  This marks the second straight championship the Tigers finished in third place tying the best finish in program history with the 2019 team.

Meet Highlights

* With no championship last year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, junior Nyoki Jones (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) finally had a chance to defend her title in both the 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles and it was worth the wait.  Jones finished first overall in both events again as she earned All-CACC first team honors.  She finished the 400-meter dash in a time of 57.72 seconds to set a new personal-best as well as setting a new CACC Championship record.  Jones recorded a time of 1:04.92 to win the 400 hurdles.

* The Holy Family relay teams missed out on All-CACC honors in 2019 by one slot but this time around there was no doubt as both the 4x100 meter relay and the 4x400 meter relay teams each finished first overall.  The 4x100 meter relay squad of Ariel Salkey (Queens, N.Y./Francis Lewis), Jones, Kimoya Henry-Ellis (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon) and Shanell Pusey (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Matanzas) set a new school record finishing in a time of 48.77 seconds.  The previous mark of 49.19 was set at the 2018 Penn Relays.  The 4x400 team of Jones, Salkey, Desiree Draper (Philadelphia, Pa./John W. Hallahan Catholic) and Kai B. Lash (Montrale, N.J./Pascack Hills) recorded a winning time of 3:58.33 breaking the CACC Championship record set by the 2018 Bloomfield College relay team (3:59.41).

* A pair of field student-athletes also earned All-CACC honors.  In the pole vault event, sophomore Jillian Gatley (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) finished second overall to earn second team recognition.  She recorded a distance of 8'6.25" (2.60m).  In the shot put event, sophomore Korryn Braxton-Young (Wilmington, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) also earned second team honors with a second place showing.  Braxton-Young recorded a distance of 38'10.5" (11.85m).

* As a team, Holy Family finished tied for third place with Bloomfield as both the Tigers and Bears totaled 105.5 points in the championship.  The third-place finish showing marks the Tigers best finish in the CACC Championship.  Holy Family finished third overall at the 2019 championship.
