Tigers Swept by City Rival Rams



Bensalem, Pa. – The Holy Family University softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep versus city rival Thomas Jefferson University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Tuesday afternoon at Bensalem High School.  The Rams defeated the Tigers by the scores of 11-4 and 15-2.

How It Happened (Game 1)
 
* After a first inning run by the Rams to open the game, the Tigers responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs after junior Elaina Hansen (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) connected with her third home run of the season.  Hansen would add a run scoring single in the third inning to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead.
 
* The game turned in the top half of the fourth when Jefferson plated five runs to take a 7-3 lead.  Winnai Hoyt drove in a pair of runs with a base hit to score the first runs of the inning.  Hoyt would later score off an error by Holy Family.  Emily Akelaitis capped the scoring for the Rams with a two-run homer. 
 
* Jefferson added three more runs in the fifth when Hoyt cleared the bases with a three-run triple extending the Rams lead to 10-3.
 
* Junior Ashley Remington (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) led the sixth inning off for the Tigers with a solo homerun; her first of the season to account for the Tigers final fun of the game.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 1)
 
* Hansen went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored for the Tigers.  Junior Stephanie Uribe (San Diego, Calif./Liberty Charter High) went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, while junior Abigail Smith (Elkton, Md./Red Lion Christian Academy) went 2-for-4 with a double and a run.
 
* Hoyt was 3-for-5 for the Rams and finished the game with five RBI and two runs.  Akelaitis was 3-for-4 with three RBI.
 
How It Happened (Game 2)
 
* Holy Family struck first in the latter game as the Tigers scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.  Sophomore Makenna Patterson (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) and senior Michelle Slaughter (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) each drove in a run in the inning.
 
* The lead was short-lived as Jefferson sent 12 batters to the plate resulting in eight runs and six hits in the second inning.  Dallas Urban and Akelaitis each drove in two runs in the inning.
 
* The Rams' offense added two more runs in the third and five in the fifth.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 2)
 
* Hoyt capped the second game going 3-for-4 for the Rams.  She drove in two and scored twice.  For the day she finished 6-for-9 with seven RBI and four runs.  Ekelaitis also had a big day for the Rams as she went 6-for-8 between the two games to go along with seven RBI.
 
* Jefferson's Gianna DeLorenzo (5-1) pitched three innings in relief to earn the win.  She struck out four and allowed just two hits.  DeLorenzo was also credited with the win in game one to finish the double header with 7.2 innings of relief.  She struck out five in the opener to finish with nine on the afternoon.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 40th and 41st meetings between Holy Family and Jefferson since the start of the 2002 season. The Tigers are now 23-18 versus the Rams in that span.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Thursday, April 8 as the Tigers host Wilmington University in a CACC doubleheader.  Game one is set for 2 p.m. at Bensalem High School.
