Tigers Sweep City Rival Griffins



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University softball team combined for 23 runs and 22 hits in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader versus city rival Chestnut Hill College resulting in a pair of victories on Wednesday afternoon at the Chestnut Hill Softball Field.  The Tigers took game one, 10-0, in six innings and followed with a 13-1 five-inning triumph in game two.

How It Happened (Game 1)
 
* Junior Ashley Remington (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) stifled the Chestnut Hill offense holding the Griffins to just a single hit through seven-innings of shutout ball. Remington struck out seven batters and, in the process, surpassed 200 K's in her career.  She entered today's doubleheader three strikeouts shy of 200 and now has 204 in her career.
 
* The Holy Family offense scored (at the time) a season-high 10 runs.  The Tigers totaled four runs in the opening inning with senior Heather Bogardus (Ridley, Pa./Ridley), freshman Emily Siwek (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) and junior Stephanie Uribe (San Diego, Calif./Liberty Charter High) each driving in runs. 
 
* The Tigers tacked on two more runs in the top half of the fourth inning thanks to a two-run homer by Remington.  It marked her second long ball of the season to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead.
 
* Holy Family added four more runs in the sixth inning.  Senior Taylor Nichols (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) drove in the innings first run with a double to right field.  Bogardus and Uribe each drew bases loaded walks to score runs, while senior Michelle Slaughter (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) drove in a run with an infield hit to shortstop.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 1)
 
* With her seven strikeouts, Remington is the fifth pitcher in the program's Division II era to record 200-plus career strikeouts.  She currently ranks fifth with 204 career strikeouts.
 
* Bogardus went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate as she drove in two runs and scored twice. She also drew two walks in the game. 
 
* Junior Abigail Smith (Elkton, Md./Red Lion Christian Academy) went 2-for-4 with a team-high three runs.
 
* Chestnut Hill's Lily Reid recorded the team's lone hit; a base hit in the third inning.
 
How It Happened (Game 2)
 
* In game two the offense once again came up big as the Tigers scored a season-high 13 runs topping the 10 runs the team scored in the opener.  Junior Elaina Hansen (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) gave the Tigers an early 2-0 lead with a first inning home run.  Hansen's two-run shot marked her team-leading fifth home run of the season.
 
* Holy Family exploded for eight runs in the third inning to put the game away.  The Tigers sent 13 batters to the plate while collecting five hits.  Junior Jasmine Martinez (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Polytechnic) and Hansen each drove in two runs to highlight the inning.
 
* The Tigers added three more runs in the fourth with Nichols driving in two runs with a triple and then scored on a base hit by Hansen.
 
* Sophomore Makenna Patterson (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) picked up her first collegiate victory as she held Chestnut Hill to a single run off only four hits.  She finished the game with three strikeouts.

Inside the Box Score (Game 2)
 
* Hansen drove in a career-high five runs as she finished the game 3-for-4 to go along with three runs.  Her home run in the first inning in the first inning set a new career-high for home runs in a season with five.  It also marked her 13th career home run.
 
* Martinez went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.  Nichols drove in a season-high three runs while going 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
 
* Gabrielle O'Byrne drove in Chestnut Hill's lone run in the third inning.
 
All-Time Results
Today marked the 25th and 26th meetings between Holy Family and Chestnut Hill since the start of the 2008 season.  The Tigers are now 20-6 versus the Griffins in the all-time series. 
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, May 1 as the Tigers travel to face Post University in a CACC doubleheader.  Game one is set for 12 p.m.
