Tigers Fall to Lions in CACC Action



Lakewood, N.J. –  The Holy Family University softball team dropped a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games at Georgian Court University by the scores of 8-0 and 10-2 on Monday afternoon at GCU Softball Field #1.

How It Happened (Game 1)
 
* Georgian Court's Mikayla Gilgert (11-2) picked up her 11th win of the season after holding the Holy Family offense to just one hit in a five-inning complete game effort.  Gilgert struck out 10 batters and allowed only two baserunners via a hit and a walk.
 
* The Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to three run scoring hits in the opening inning.  Georgian Court scored at least one run in each inning.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 1)
 
* Junior Ashley Remington (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) broke up Gilgert's no-hitter bid with a two-out single in the top half of the fourth inning.  Junior Abigail Smith (Elkton, Md./Red Lion Christian Academy) was the other Tigers' base runner in the game as she reached base with a lead off walk to start the game.
 
* Georgian Court's Alyssa Herrera went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs.  Jayda Jones was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
 
How It Happened (Game 2)
 
* In game two, the Georgian Court pitching staff continued to hold the Holy Family offense in-check.  The Tigers were held scoreless through the first four innings of the game.  Holy Family finally got on the board in the fifth inning when Smith drilled a double to right-field to score junior Stephanie Uribe (San Diego, Calif./Liberty Charter High) and sophomore Devyn Dydak (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy)
 
* The Lions mounted an 8-0 lead before the Tigers' two runs in the top-half of the fifth.  Georgian Court scored five runs in the third Malia Black highlighting the inning the a three-run homer.
 
* Georgian Court matched the Tigers' two runs in the bottom of the fifth to record a walk-off victory due to the eight-run mercy rule at 10-2.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 2)
 
* Junior Elaina Hansen (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) along with Dydak and Slaughter had base hits in the game for the Tigers.  Smith had the team's lone extra-base hit which resulted in a pair of runs.
 
* Georgian Court's Jennifer Tellefsen was the pitcher of record as she earned her first win of the season after going three innings.  She allowed just one hit and struck out four batters.
 
* Herrera went 4-for-4 in the game for the Lions.  She recorded three RBI and scored twice.  Black also drove in three runs with her three-run homer in the third inning. 
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 45th and 46th meeting between Holy Family and Georgian Court since the start of the 2002 season.  The Tigers are now 13-33 versus the Lions in that span.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, April 28 as the Tigers travel across town to face Chestnut Hill College in a CACC doubleheader.  Game one is slated for 2:30 p.m.
