Tigers Split CACC DH With Lightning



Wilmington, Del. –  The Holy Family University softball team scored a season-high nine runs in the opening game of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Goldey-Beacom College as the Tigers came away with a 9-1 victory in game one on Sunday afternoon at the Jackson Athletic Complex.  The Lightning went on to beat the Tigers, 3-1, in game two resulting in a doubleheader split.

How It Happened (Game 1)
 
* Junior Ashley Remington (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) helped her own cause as she recorded not one but two run scoring doubles in her first two at-bats in the game.  The latter coming in the top half of the third breaking up a 1-1 tie.
 
* Remington held the Goldey-Beacom offense in-check as she scattered three hits and allowed just the first inning run on the way to her second victory of the season.  She also struck out six batters in the complete five-inning performance.
 
* Holy Family broke the game wide open in the top half of the fourth inning with seven runs coming across the plate.  With two outs in the inning the Tigers recorded five straight run scoring hits capped off by a two-run double by junior Jasmine Martinez (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Polytechnic).  Holy Family had six different batters drive in runs in the inning.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Remington went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, including two doubles and three RBI.
 
* As a team the Tigers recorded a season-high 12 hits as four players finished the game with multiple hits. 
 
* Senior Taylor Nichols (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) and junior Elaina Hansen (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) each went 2-of-3 with two runs and an RBI… Martinez also was 2-for-3 at the plate as she drove in two runs and scored once.
 
* For Goldey-Beacom, Zoe Lockwood (1-3), Jess Lusk (1-2) and Emily Lozowski (1-2) each recorded a hit.
 
How It Happened (Game 2)
 
* The first run of the game didn't come until the top half of the fourth inning as the Tigers grabbed a 1-0 lead thanks to a lead off double by Hansen to jump start the inning.  Remington followed with a single up the middle to advance Hansen to third.  Two batters later Marinez drove in Hansen while reaching on a fielder's choice. 
 
* The Lightning finally got to Remington, who started game two as well for the Tigers, in the fifth inning.  An early inning error helped the Lightning get their first run across.  Emily Lozows reached on an error to lead up the inning.  After stealing second, Lozows scored on a double by pinch-hitter Lexi Thomas to tie the game at 1-1.  The Lightning then followed with another two runs in the inning to grab their first lead of the game at 3-1. 
 
* The Tigers had a chance in the top half of the sixth with two outs and the bases loaded but the Lightning were able to force a pop-out to end the inning without surrendering a run. In the seventh, the Tigers managed one baserunner after Remington was hit by a pitch.   
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Martinez drove in her third run of the doubleheader accounting for the Tigers only score in game two.  She finished the afternoon with three hits and three RBI.
 
* Remington (2-6) was the pitcher of record for both games.  She went five innings in game two allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out another six batters.  Between the two games, Remington fanned 12 batters in 10 innings of work.  At the plate she finished with four hits in six at-bats.
 
* Chrissy Jordan picked up her first victory of the season for the Lightning as she went the distance allowing just the one run on five hits. 
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 39th and 40th meetings between Holy Family and Goldey-Beacom since the start of the 2002 season.  The Tigers are now 29-11 versus the Lightning in that span.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Thursday, April 22 as the Tigers complete its road swing with a CACC doubleheader at Georgian Court University.  Game one is set for 2:30 p.m.
