Tigers Shutout by Cougars in CACC DH



Caldwell, N.J. – The Holy Family University softball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Caldwell University by the scores of 6-0 and 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at Caldwell Field.

How It Happened (Game 1)
 
* Caldwell gave starting pitcher, Mariah Culver (5-4) all the support she would need in the bottom of the second inning.  Anyssia Ramirez and Emma Cooney each recorded run scoring doubles in the inning to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead. 
 
* Culver did the rest as she held the Tigers to just five hits in five innings of work.  She struck out eight and didn't issue any walks.  Kayla Daly closed out the game with two innings of relief surrendering two hits and striking out a pair.
 
* Caldwell scored single runs in the third and fourth innings and added a pair of runs in the fifth.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 1)
 
* Junior Elaina Hansen (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) continues to swing a hot bat this season as she went 3-for-4 at the plate.  Senior Michelle Slaughter (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) recorded the team's lone extra base hit with a double in the top half of the fourth.
 
* Ramirez finished 2-for-3 for the Cougars with two runs and two RBI.  Ramirez homered in the bottom of the fourth inning. 
 
How It Happened (Game 2)
 
* Caldwell wasted no time jumping out on the Tigers in the latter game.  The Cougars plated seven runs off five hits in the opening inning.  Paige Sandoval and Cooney recorded back-to-back two run doubles to highlight the inning.
 
* After pitching two innings of relief in the opener, Daly (3-3) started game two and went four innings allowing just two hits.  She issued one walk and struck out four to pick up the win.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 2)
 
* Hansen accounted for both of the Tigers' hits in the game as she went 2-for-2 and a combined 5-for-6 in the doubleheader.  She is now hitting an impressive .451 on the year.
 
* Chloe VanGorder went 2-for-2 for the Cougars to go along with one run and two RBI.  Sandoval and Cooney also drove in two runs each.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 40th and 41st meetings between Holy Family and Caldwell since the start of the 2002 season.  The Tigers are now 7-34 versus the Cougars in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action tomorrow as the Tigers once again hit the road to face Goldey-Beacom College in a CACC doubleheader.  Game one is set for 12 p.m.
