Tigers Fall to City Rival Devils in CACC DH



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University softball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader to city rival University of the Sciences by the scores of 10-4 and 9-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the Urban Youth Academy Fields in Philadelphia.

How It Happened (Game 1)
 
* The Devils jumped out to a 5-0 lead after scoring three runs in the opening inning and two more in the second.  However, the Tigers rallied for four runs in the top half of the third to make it a one score game.  Junior Elaina Hansen (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) highlighted the inning with a two-run double after the Tigers loaded the bases.  Sophomore Makenna Patterson (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) followed with a run scoring single. An error by the Devils also allowed Hansen to cross the plate to make the score 5-4.
 
* USciences extended its lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the fourth after scoring another two runs.  Gabriella Polera tripled in a run and later scored on a wild pitch.  The Devils tallied two more runs in the fifth with run scoring hits by Lauren DelGi and Gabrielle Simms.  The Devils capped the game's scoring in the sixth after a sacrifice fly by Polera.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 1)
 
* Hansen finished the game 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored.  Patterson had the other lone hit for the Tigers as she also finished 1-for-3 at the plate.
 
* For the Devils, Simms went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs.  Polera finished 2-for-2 with three RBI and a runs scored.  Danielle Jones was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
 
* Megan Master (3-1) went seven innings in a winning effort for the Devils.  She allowed two earned runs on two hits while striking out five.
 
How It Happened (Game 2)
 
* Holy Family scored the game's first run in the opening inning to take an early 1-0 lead.  Hansen hit a one-out double to right field and later scored on a base hit by junior Stephanie Uribe (San Diego, Calif./Liberty Charter High)
 
* The Devils responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs thanks to a run scoring double by Polera who later scored on a ground out by Taylor Hamm. 
* The score remained 2-1 until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Devils exploded for seven runs to record the walk-off win after the eight-run mercy rule went into effect.  Miranda Rodriguez and Analise Griffiths each had two-run doubles in the inning.
 
Inside the Box Score (Game 2)
 
* Hansen and Patterson each went 2-for-3 in the game.  They each finished the doubleheader with three hits.
 
* Simms and Polera both finished 3-for-3 at the plate in the game with two runs scored for USciences.  Polera also drove in a pair of runs. 
 
* In the pitching circle, Paige Schlechter (1-2) picked up the win as she allowed one run on six hits in a complete five-inning performance. 
 
All-Time Results
Today marked the 37th and 38th meetings between Holy Family and USciences since the start of the 2002 season.  The Tigers are now 28-10 versus the Devils in that span.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, April 17 as the Tigers travel to face Caldwell University in a CACC doubleheader.  Game one is set for 12 p.m.
