Tigers Drop Spring Opener to GCU



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University men's soccer team finally got back onto the field for the first time since the 2019 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) semifinals as the Tigers hosted Georgian Court University on Tuesday afternoon to open the 2021 Spring Season at Father Judge High School.  The Lions defeated the Tigers, 3-0.

How It Happened
 
* Two early first half goals by Georgian Court set the tone of the game and gave the visitors the edge.  Mathias Madersbacher found the back of the net for the Lions just 1:22 into the game.  In the 14th minute the Lions doubled the score with a goal from Louis Silva.
 
* The Georgian Court defense limited the Tigers' offense to just two shots in the first half and seven for the game.  The Lions outshot the Tigers, 19-7, for the game.
 
* Georgian Court added to its lead in the second half when Tommaso Rio scored in the 67th minute to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.
 
News and Notes
 
* Junior Georg Montag (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and sophomore Dakota Taylor (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) each had a shot-on goal in the second half for the Tigers.
 
* Senior goalkeeper Mark Tobin (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic (La Salle Univ.)) made five saves in net after facing 19 shots by the Lions.
 
* Today marked the Tigers' first game in 480 days.  The last time Holy Family competed in a game was on Nov. 15, 2019 versus Post University in the CACC semifinals.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the ninth meeting between Holy Family and Georgian Court since the start of the 2013 season.  The Tigers are now 2-6-1 versus the Lions in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, March 13 as the Tigers travel to face Nyack College in a CACC contest. Game time is set for 5 p.m. As a reminder, per CACC policy fans are not permitted at any contest this season.
