Tigers Shutdown Golden Falcons, 3-0



Philadelphia, Pa. – Junior Tayana Bennett (Philadelphia, Pa./Hill-Freedom World Academy) and sophomore Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) combined for 21 kills as the Holy Family University women's volleyball team came away with a 3-0 victory over visiting Felician University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family took the opening set after a strong team offensive performance with a match-high 16 kills to go along with a .394 attack percentage.  The Tigers never trailed after breaking an early 3-3 tie with the Golden Falcons. Three straight kills gave the team a 6-3 advantage and from there the Tigers gradually grew their lead.  Senior Camille Johnson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) recorded five of her eight kills in the opening set, while Bennett accounted for four kills. 
 
* With early control of the match the Tigers went on to take the second set with a late rally.  Already ahead 15-11, the Tigers broke the set wide open with a 6-0 run to take a commanding 20-11 lead. Five straight kills, including three by Hartney spearheaded the rally. Holy Family took the set, 25-13.
 
* The Holy Family defense held the Golden Falcons to four kills in the second set and did one better in the third allowing just three kills the entire third set.  Holy Family jumped out to a 9-2 lead and never looked back.  After Felician made the score 17-7, the Tigers went on to score the final eight points of the match to secure the shutout victory.
 
News and Notes
 
* Hartney finished in double-figures in kills for the fourth time this season tying her season-high with 11.  She committed just one error on 19 attempts to finish the match with a .526 attack percentage.
 
* Bennett was just as impressive on the attack as she set a career-high with 10 kills while committing only two errors on 22 attempts for a .364 attack percentage.  Bennett also tallied one solo block and one block assist.
 
* Johnson finished with eight kills and totaled five blocks on the afternoon, including two solo and three assisted. 
 
* Junior Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) paced the offense with 32 assists to go along with a pair of aces and nine digs.
 
* Sophomore Maeve Boylan (Ridley Township, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) led the team with 12 digs and had three aces off the serve.
 
* Senior Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) finished with six kills and a season-high 11 digs.
 
* Felician's Katie Asbery and Maddie Sloan each totaled five kills in the match.  Miquela Martinez totaled a match-high 14 digs.
 
* Holy Family as a team set a season-high with a .326 attack percentage as a team.  The 17 team kills by the Golden Falcons are the lowest allowed by the Tigers' defense this season.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 21st meeting between Holy Family and Felician since the start of the 2004 season.  The Tigers are now 20-1 all-time versus the Golden Falcons and have won the last 18 contests.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Thursday, March 11 as the Tigers host Concordia College in the final home regular season match of the season.  Match time is set for 6 p.m.
