Tigers Fall to Warriors in Final Non-Conference Contest of 2021



East Stroudsburg, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's basketball team dropped its final non-conference contest of the season with a 57-47 setback at East Stroudsburg University on Thursday night at Koehler Field House.

How It Happened
 
* Leading 14-11 early on in the second quarter, East Stroudsburg used an 11-0 run to grab a double-digit advantage over the Tigers.  A three-pointer by Corrin Gill at the 3:45 mark of the quarter capped the run for the Warriors to make the score 25-11. 
 
* The Warriors led by as many as 15 points (28-13) in the quarter before sophomore Lindsay Tretter (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) capped the scoring in the half with a three-pointer in the final minute.  The Warriors took a 28-16 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.
 
* Holy Family started the third quarter with a 10-2 run to cut into the East Stroudsburg lead.  Tretter made it a four-point game at 30-26 with a Fastbreak jumper at the 6:07 mark. However, the Warriors responded in a big way closing out the final six minutes by outscoring the Tigers, 15-4, to lead 45-30 entering the final quarter.
 
* In the fourth quarter, the Warriors extended their run and increased their lead to 51-31; the largest of the game by the 5:45 mark. 
 
* Over the next five-plus minutes the Tigers responded with a 16-2 run as Holy Family came within six points of the lead after graduate Megan Hughes (Point Pleasant Boro, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro) split a pair of free throws to make the score 53-47.  Despite the surge, time was not on the Tigers side.  Holy Family was forced to foul in the final :16 seconds to try to extend the game but the Warriors went 4-of-4 from the free throw line to close out the victory.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
*  Tretter led the Tigers with 14 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists. 
 
* Hughes recorded a team-high eight rebounds while scoring six points.  Senior Megan O'Connell (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Huberts) also finished the game with six points while leading the team with five assists.  She also grabbed four rebounds and had two steals on defense.
 
* Sophomore Dakota Schultice (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional) added seven points and four rebounds, while tallying a pair of steals.
 
* For East Stroudsburg, Cassie Ksiazek recorded a double-double with a game-high 21 points (8-12 FG) and 12 rebounds.  Katie Geisler came off the bench and finished the night with eight points.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the sixth meeting between Holy Family and East Stroudsburg since the start of the 2012-13 season.  The Tigers are now 2-4 versus the Warriors in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 2 as the Tigers resume Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a road contest against Post University.  Game time is set for 1 p.m. in Waterbury, Conn.
