Tigers Fall to Griffins in CACC Opener, 67-58



Philadelphia, Pa.  – The Holy Family University men's basketball team dropped its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener to city rival Chestnut Hill College by the score of 67-58 on Wednesday night at the Campus Center Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* Trailing 40-33 at the 16:42 mark of the second half, Holy Family went on a 9-0 run over the next three minutes to grab a 42-40 lead.  Junior Rick'Keem Mixson (Linden, N.J./St. Mary of the Assumption (Raritan Valley CC)) capped the run with a three-pointer.
 
* Chestnut Hill would regain the lead on its ensuing possession with Conor Regan responding with a three-pointer of his own.  Regan's three would jumpstart a 15-3 run by the Griffins.  Noah Charles hit a three to give Chestnut Hill a 55-45 lead at the 9:27 mark.
 
* Holy Family cut the deficit down to one possession with a 9-2 surge. Junior Nate Conyer (Pemberton, N.J./BCIT Medford) converted 2-of-3 free throws after being fouled attempting a three-point shot to make the score 57-54 with less than five minutes to play. 
 
* Down the stretch the Tigers made it a two-point game after a three-pointer by Daniel Fleming (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) made the score 59-57 at the 2:45 mark. However, the Griffins would go on to close the game out with an 8-1 run to preserve the lead. 
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Fleming, along with junior Kharon Randolph (Philadelphia, Pa./Haverford School), each led the Tigers with 13 points.  Fleming added a team-high seven boards, while Randolph added five rebounds and three assists.
 
* Mixson filled the box score with seven points, four rebounds, three assists and a team-high three steals.
 
* For Chestnut Hill, Nigel Haughton scored a game-high 14 points to go along with seven boards.  Regan grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds while scoring eight points off the bench.
 
* Chestnut Hill took advantage of its free throw attempts converting 22-of-28 where as the Tigers only ventured to the free throw line for 14 attempts. 
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 27th meeting between Holy Family and Chestnut Hill since the start of the 2008 season.  The Tigers are now 18-9 versus the Griffins in that span.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 4 as the Tigers travel to face Wilmington University in a CACC contest.  Game time is set for 3 p.m.
