Tigers Survive Cougars; Advance to Semifinals With OT Win



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's soccer team is heading to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) semifinals for the fifth time in six seasons after defeating seventh-seeded Caldwell University, 2-1, in overtime in the quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon at New Tiger Field.  The second-seeded Tigers will now face third-seeded Thomas Jefferson University in the semifinals on Friday.

How It Happened
 
* Less than two minutes into the overtime period, freshman Alyssa Hooten (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) connected on the game-winning score to send the Tigers to the CACC semifinals.  Hooten, with a shot from point-blank range in front of the net, fired a shot towards the lower right part of the goal to beat the Caldwell keeper.  Sophomore Sarah Szychulski (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) assisted Hooten on the score.
 
* The game-tying goal came in the 47th minute for the Tigers when senior Jacqueline Ziegler (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season.  After Caldwell's Jamie-Lee Bamford made a stop on Hooten's shot, Ziegler was able to collect the rebounded ball and get off a shot for the score.  Hooten was credited with the assist.
 
* Caldwell scored the game's first goal in the 18th minute when Sarah Costanza had a break-away opportunity after a long pass from Bamford.  Costanza's goal marked her team-leading eighth of the season.

* Ziegler's goal marked her sixth of the season and pushed her season total of points to 20 setting a new career-high.  In game's that Ziegler records at least one point the Tigers are now 8-0-2.
 
* Hooten finished the game with three points setting a career-high after scoring the game-winner and assisting on the game-tying score.
 
* Senior goalkeeper Alayna McSeed (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) earned the win in net as she made three saves after facing just seven shots by the Cougars.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 31st meeting between Holy Family and Caldwell since the start of the 1999 season.  The Tigers are now 24-6-1 versus the Cougars in the all-time series with Holy Family winning the last three match ups.  This also marked the ninth meeting in the postseason between the two teams with the Tigers now holding a 5-3-1 edge in the postseason.
 
Holy Family in the CACC Tournament
Holy Family improves to 32-10-4 in the CACC Tournament all time.  The Tigers are appearing in their 23rd straight conference tournament and will be making their fifth trip to the semifinals in the last six seasons.
 
Next Up
As previously mentioned, Holy Family will face city rival Jefferson in the semifinals on Friday.  Game time is set for 11 a.m. and will be held at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, Conn.  The winner will advance to Sunday's CACC Championship against the winner of the other semifinal contest between #4 Wilmington University and #8 Georgian Court University.
