Tigers Defeat Chargers to Advance to CACC Semifinals



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's volleyball team will be advancing to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) semifinals for the fifth straight season after defeating Dominican College, the fourth seed out of the North Division, by the score of 3-0 in the quarterfinals on Tuesday night at the Campus Center.

How It Happened
 
* The Tigers were locked in both offensively and defensively.  Holy Family scorched the Chargers for 44 total kills, including a match-high 17 kills in the second set.  The Tigers offense recorded an attack percentage of .297 for the match.  On the defensive side, the Tigers totaled 56 digs to the Chargers 39 marking the second fewest digs by an opponent this season.
 
* Holy Family took the first set with ease despite falling behind 2-0 early on in the set.  The Tigers responded with four straight points and never trailed the set again on the way to the 25-14 victory.
 
* The second set Holy Family opened with a 9-1 run and maintained its lead the entire way.  The Chargers did eventually make things close later in the set coming as close as two points of the lead at 19-17.  Back-to-back errors by the Chargers capped off with a kill from Camille Johnson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) gave the Tigers a 22-17 edge.  The Tigers went on to take the set, 25-21.
 
* The Tigers trailed the third set by as many as four points after a Dominican kill made the score 14-10.  However, the Tigers scored seven of the next eight points in the set to grab the lead for good at 17-15.  After the Chargers made the score 17-16, Holy Family scored four straight points to increase the advantage to 21-16. The Tigers secured the victory by scoring three of the final four points with junior Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) recording the final point with a kill.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Hartney led the match with 15 kills to go along with an attack percentage of .351.  She also totaled a season-high eight digs.
 
* Senior Tayana Bennett (Philadelphia, Pa./Hill-Freedom World Academy) totaled with nine kills on 14 total attempts without committing a single error to finish with a .643 attack percentage.  She also had two total blocks in the match.
 
* Senior Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) came away with seven kills and 13 digs.
 
* Sophomore Faith Zehnder (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) led the match with 17 digs.
 
* Senior Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) paced the offense with a match-high 37 assists to go along with six digs.
 
* Dominican's Kaitlyn Carr finished with a team-high eight kills.  Linda Armao Peng led the team with 15 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 25th meeting between Holy Family and Dominican since the start of the 2003 season.  The Tigers are now 16-9 versus the Chargers in the all-time series.  Holy Family has won the last eight meetings.
 
Season Long Winning Streak Extended
With tonight's victory the Tigers extended their current winning streak to a season-high 11 straight matches.  This is the team's second double-digit winning streak of the season.  The Tigers previously won 10 straight earlier in the year.
 
Next Up
The top-seed Tigers will now face city rival and the third seed out of the South Division in Thomas Jefferson University.  The semifinals and finals will be hosted by Georgian Court University starting Saturday, Nov. 20 and concluding on Sunday, Nov. 21.  Match time for Saturday's semifinal is set for 1 p.m.
