Tigers Defeat Dolphins, 59-50



Staten Island, N.Y. – The Holy Family University women's basketball team came away with a 59-50 victory at the College of Staten Island on the final day of the Conference Challenge hosted by the Dolphins on Sunday afternoon at the Sports and Recreation Center.

Game Recap
 
* The turning point in the game was the entire third quarter.  The Tigers entered the second half trailing 33-26 and by the time the final buzzer went off to signal the end of the third quarter, Holy Family led 44-34.  The Tigers outscored the Dolphins, 18-1, in the quarter with their lone point coming via the free throw line at the 3:51 mark.  The Holy Family defense held the Dolphins to 0-of-9 shooting from the field and the Tigers held a 17-5 edge on rebounds, including nine offensive boards.
 
* Holy Family opened the fourth quarter scoring the first six points to increase its lead to as many as 16 points (50-34).  Staten Island did cut the deficit down to single digits at 53-46 with three minutes remaining in regulation thanks to a 12-3 surge.  Back-to-back layups by graduate Megan Hughes (Point Pleasant Boro, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro) and sophomore Jenn Kokolus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) gave the Tigers a double-digit lead once again in the final minute.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Junior Moe Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) recorded her first double-double of the season as she finished with 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.  She also dished out four assists. 
 
* Kokolus led the Tigers in scoring with a team-high 12 points to go along with eight rebounds.
 
* Graduate Anjelai Hayes (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) also scored in double-figures as she added 10 points and seven rebounds.
 
* As a team, the Tigers shot a near perfect 11-of-12 from the free throw line.
 
* The one point allowed by the Tigers in the third quarter marked the fewest points scored by a Holy Family opponent since NCAA switch to quarters in 2015-16.
 
* For Staten Island, Elizabeth Lofaro scored a game-high 14 points to go along with seven rebounds.  Ashley Lambert added 13 points.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the first-ever meeting between Holy Family and Staten Island.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 17 as the Tigers return to the Campus Center to host Bloomsburg University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 6 p.m.
