Tigers Wrap Up Conference Play Undefeated After 3-1 Victory Over Lightning



Wilmington, Del. – The Holy Family University women's volleyball closed out the regular season with a 3-1 victory at Goldey-Beacom College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Wednesday night inside the Jones Center.  Holy Family finished CACC action 18-0 becoming the first team since Dominican College to wrap up conference play unblemished.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family trailed the opening set 6-2, but the Tigers followed with a 9-0 run and never looked back.  The Tigers went on to lead by as many as seven points (15-8) before the Lightning cut the deficit down to 15-12 after a 4-0 run.  From there the Tigers closed out the set scoring 10 of the next 14 points, including the final three points.
 
* The momentum carried on into the second set as the Tigers opened with a 10-0 run.  Junior Maeve Boylan (Ridley Township, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) recorded four of her match-high seven aces in the opening run.  Leading 20-12, the Tigers scored the final five points in the set to take a 2-0 lead in the match.  Seniors Tayana Bennett (Philadelphia, Pa./Hill-Freedom World Academy) (5) and Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) (4) combined for nine of the team's 15 kills in the set.
 
* Goldey-Beacom extended the match with a 25-20 victory in the third set.  With the fourth set tied 3-3, Holy Family scored four straights to grab the lead at 7-3.  The Tigers never relinquished the lead and would go on to take the set, 25-17.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Junior Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) led the Tigers with 13 kills, while senior Camille Johnson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) and junior Skylar Osenkarski (Harding, Pa./Holy Redeemer) each finished with 10 kills.  Bennett added nine kills. 
 
* Boylan accounted for seven of the team's nine service aces setting a new career-high.  She also added 11 digs.
 
* Senior Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) totaled a match-high 51 assists to go along with nine digs.
 
* Sophomore Faith Zehnder (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) led the team with 22 digs.
 
* For Goldey-Beacom, Julia Syrdahl finished with a team-high 13 kills. 
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 36th meeting between Holy Family and Goldey-Beacom dating back to the 2003 season.  The Tigers are now 28-8 versus the Lightning in the all-time series and hold a 28-match winning streak in the series.
 
Undefeated In CACC
The win tonight completed a perfect 18-0 mark in the CACC for the Tigers.  It's the first time in program history the Tigers finished conference play unblemished and the first CACC team to do so since the 2012 when Dominican went 19-0. 
 
Next Up
Holy Family will now await its opponent for the CACC quarterfinals set to begin on Tuesday, Nov. 16.  The Tigers will host the fourth-seed from the North Division.
