Tigers’ Win-Streak Hits 10 with 3-1 Victory Over Chargers



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's volleyball opened Homecoming 2021 on a high note as the Tigers came away with their 10th straight victory after defeating Dominican College, 3-1, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Saturday morning inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family opened the match with a 6-1 run and never looked back in the first set.  The Tigers recorded 20 kills in the opening set and committed just one attack error on 33 attempts for a team attack percentage of .576.  Senior Camille Johnson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) totaled five kills in the set, while senior Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar), Tayana Bennett (Philadelphia, Pa./Hill-Freedom World Academy) and juniors Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) and Skylar Osenkarski (Harding, Pa./Holy Redeemer) each had three kills. 
 
* After dropping the second set, the Tigers bounced back by opening the third set with a 5-1 run. After Dominican scored the first point in the set, the Tigers grabbed the lead thanks to their early run.  Holy Family never relinquished the lead in the set but the Chargers kept pace a close distance behind.  Dominican scored three straight points to make the score 24-22 late in the set before Covington closed out the set with a kill for the Tigers.
 
* In the fourth set, the Tigers trailed 9-8 but went on to score seven of the next eight points to regain the lead at 15-10.  Holy Family never allowed the Chargers to possess the lead again in the set despite Dominican tying the score at 19-19.  Holy Family ripped off four straight points to lead 23-19 before taking the set, 25-21.

* The Tigers had three players finish in double-figure kills.  Covington led the way with 15 kills, while Hartney finished with 14 kills and Bennett totaled a season-high 13 kills.
 
* Senior Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) registered a season-high 57 assists to go along with nine digs.  With her nine digs, Silks is closing in on 1,000 for her career.  She currently has 969 career digs.  Furthermore, Silks is now less than 100 assists away from tying the program's all-time assists record which is currently held by former standout Aimme Drabyn (2007-2010).  Drabyn recorded 3,889 assists in her career.  Silks will enter the team's next match with 3,812 career assists.
 
* Sophomore Faith Zehnder (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) finished with a match-high 21 digs, while senior Stephanie Woolston (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) and Maeve Boylan (Ridley Township, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) each totaled nine digs in the match.  Boylan and Zehnder each had three aces.
 
* Johnson totaled nine kills to go along with five total blocks (1BS/4BA).  Osenkarski finished the match with eight kills and two block assists. 
 
* Dominican's Kaitlyn Carr had a match-high 20 kills. 
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 24th meeting between Holy Family and Dominican since the start of the 2003 season.  The Tigers are now 15-9 versus the Chargers in the all-time series. Holy Family has won the last seven meetings.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 13 as the Tigers host Adelphi University in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 7 p.m.
