Tigers Shutout City Rival Griffins



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's volleyball team secured its eighth straight victory after downing city rival Chestnut Hill College, 3-0, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Tuesday night inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family opened the match with a 25-13 victory in the first set.  After dropping the first two points, the Tigers allowed just 11 points the rest of the way.  The Tigers had four separate 5-0 runs throughout the set.  The Holy Family defense limited Chestnut Hill to just four kills in the set.
 
* In the second set the Griffins held a 14-8 advantage; their biggest lead of the match.  However, the Tigers stormed back with an 8-1 run to grab their first lead of the set at 16-15.  Chestnut Hill tied it at 16 all after a Tigers' error, but Holy Family used a 4-1 run to make it 20-17.  The Griffins would come within one point of the lead at 22-21 before the Tigers scored the final three points of the set.
 
* Momentum carried over into the third set with Holy Family opening with a 10-3 run.  The Tigers just once in the set at 1-0 and never looked back. Holy Family led by as many as 12 points on two occasions before taking the set with a 25-14 victory.

* The Holy Family offense had three players record eight kills to tie for the match lead.  Senior Camille Johnson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake), junior Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) and sophomore Natasha Yanief (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson).
 
* Junior Skylar Osenkarski (Harding, Pa./Holy Redeemer) added six kills and six total blocks off two solo blocks and four block assists.  Senior Tayana Bennett (Philadelphia, Pa./Hill-Freedom World Academy) finished the night with five kills.
 
* Defensively, sophomore Faith Zehnder (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) led the Tigers with nine digs, while senior Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) finished with eight.  Senior Stephanie Woolston (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) tallied six digs in the match.
 
* Senior Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) led the match with 29 assists while totaling six digs on defense.
 
* For Chestnut Hill, Erika Dubosky and Leah Miller each finished with five kills.  Torrin Kelley had a match-high 11 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 28th meeting between Holy Family and Chestnut Hill in the all-time series dating back to the 2007 season.  The Tigers are now 26-2 versus the Griffins.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 7 as the Tigers face another city rival in the University of the Sciences in a road conference match up.  Match time is set for 7 p.m.
