Tigers Shutdown Lions in South Division Clash



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's volleyball team completed the season sweep of Georgian Court University as the Tigers came away with a 3-0 victory in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Wednesday night at the Campus Center Gymnasium.  The win secured a home quarterfinal match for the Tigers when the CACC Tournament begins next month.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family came out firing offensively recording 13 kills in the opening set with an attack percentage of .455.  Senior Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) (5) and junior Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) (4) combined for nine of the team's 13 kills. Georgian Court led 5-2 early on in the set before the Tigers tied things up at 7-7.  After exchanging points, the Tigers scored four straight points capped off by a pair of service aces by junior Maeve Boylan (Ridley Township, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) to make the score 12-8.  The Tigers led the rest of the set and closed things out with five straight points to take the set, 25-15.
 
* Holy Family led the second set 12-7 before the Lions came roaring back to tie the set at 16-16.  After a quick timeout by the Tigers, the home squad responded with four straight points to regain the lead at 20-16.  Georgian Court and Holy Family exchanged the next six points of the set before the Tigers tallied the final three points all on kills to take the set 25-19.
 
* The Tigers pulled away after the Lions made the score 7-6.  Holy Family recorded the next five points with the help of three GCU miscues and a pair of service aces by senior Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) to take a 12-6 advantage.  Later in the set with the score at 19-12, Holy Family scored another five unanswered points to take its biggest lead of the set at 24-12.  After two points by the Lions, a kill from junior Skylar Osenkarski (Harding, Pa./Holy Redeemer) sealed the set and victory at 25-14.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Covington led the match with 12 kills while recording an attack percentage of .357 after committing just two errors on 28 attempts.  Hartney added eight kills and a .400 attack percentage with just two errors as well on 15 attempts.
 
* Osenkarski and senior Camille Johnson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) each finished with seven kills.  Osenkarski finished with a match-high .438 attack percentage off 16 attempts and zero errors.  Johnson finished with an attack percentage of .313 while committing just two errors on 16 attempts.
 
* Silks recorded 34 assists to go along with six digs and three aces.
 
* Sophomore Faith Zehnder (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) led the team with 11 digs and two aces.
 
* Holy Family finished the match with a season-best .315 attack percentage as the Tigers recorded a season-low 10 errors.  The Tigers also recorded 12 aces; one shy of the season-high mark of 13 set the other night at Caldwell University.
 
* For Georgian Court, Grace Fenn led the team with 10 kills.  Jessica Sprankle recorded a match-high 14 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 42nd meeting between Holy Family and Georgian Court since the start of the 2003 season.  The Tigers are now 21-21 versus the Lions in the all-time series.
 
Postseason Picture
With a postseason berth already in hand, the Tigers now clinched a home quarterfinal match when the CACC Tournament begins next month.  With four matches left in the regular season, the Tigers magic number to earn a share of the CACC South Division Regular Season title is at two.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 2 as the Tigers travel to face city rival Chestnut Hill College in a CACC contest.  Match time is set for 7 p.m.
