Tigers Hold Off Griffins on Senior Night



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's basketball team came away with a 64-61 victory over city rival Chestnut Hill College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Wednesday night at the Campus Center Gymnasium.  The win secured a home postseason game for the Tigers when the CACC Tournament begins next week.

Game Recap

* Holy Family led 50-39 after scoring the final five points of the third quarter capped off by a jumper from junior Anjelai Hayes (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) in the final seconds. The Griffins put the pressure on the Tigers to open the fourth scoring nine straight points to come within two points of the lead at 50-48 at the 6:28 mark.
 
* Despite the rally by the Griffins the Tigers never relinquished the lead down the stretch.  Chestnut Hill did tie the game at 59-59 off a jumper by Cassie Sebold with 1:43 to play, but after a :30 second timeout by the Tigers, Hayes knocked down a clutch three to make the score 62-59.
 
* On the following Griffins' possession, Leah Miller scored to make the score 62-61 with less than a minute to play. The Tigers responded with a layup basket by senior Elizabeth Radley (Hainesport, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) to regain the three-point edge. 
 
* Chestnut Hill had multiple opportunities to tie the game but came up empty on three possessions in the final minute. 
 
News and Notes
 
* Radley finished with a game-high 20 points as she shot 9-of-18 from the field to go along with seven rebounds.  With her 20 points she now has 1,145 career points and moved into 18th on the program's all-time scoring list surpassing former standout Erin Fenningham (2012-16) who scored 1,126 points in her Holy Family career.
 
* Graduate Mia Ehling (Linden, N.J./Holmdel (St. Francis)) finished with 12 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists.
 
* Seniors Dana Dockery (Wappinger Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) and Casey Schweitzer (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) each finished with eight points.  Schweitzer also led the team with five assists.
 
* Hayes totaled nine points on the night, while freshman Moe Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) added seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
 
* Sebold led Chestnut Hill with 16 points, while Lauren Crim finished with 15.  Miller added 14 points and a team-high seven boards.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 26th meeting between Holy Family and Chestnut Hill dating back to the 2007-08 season.  The Tigers are now 21-5 versus the Griffins in the all-time series.
 
Postseason Picture
Holy Family is officially locked in as the second seed out of the South Division when the CACC Tournament begins on Tuesday, March 2.  The Tigers unofficially will face Caldwell University, the third seed in the North Division, in the quarter finals.  The pairings will officially be announced by the conference office at the conclusion of the regular season on Saturday.
 
Next Up
Holy Family will wrap up the regular season on Saturday as the Tigers travel to face city rival Jefferson in the final CACC contest of the season.  Game time is set for 2 p.m.
