Tigers Fall to Nationally Ranked Devils



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's basketball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest to city rival and nationally ranked No. 19 University of the Sciences by the score of 74-53 on Tuesday evening inside Bobby Morgan Arena.

Game Recap
 
* Holy Family stayed close to the nationally ranked Devils in a low scoring opening quarter.  The Devils though pulled ahead late after the Tigers grabbed a 9-7 lead on a fast-break jumper by junior Anjelai Hayes (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) at the 4:32 mark.  USciences went on to score eight of the final 10 points of the quarter to lead 15-11 after the first 10 full minutes of action.
 
* In the second quarter the Devils made a run and used a 14-3 surge over the first four-plus minutes to lead 29-14 after Irisa Ye knocked down a three-pointer to cap the run. The Devils led by as many as 17 points (39-22) in the final minute before the Tigers made the score 39-24 by the end of the half.
 
* USciences maintained its double-digit lead the entire second half and led by as many as 25 points in the game.  A jumper by Brigit Coleman gave the Devils a 67-42 advantage at the 5:56 mark of the fourth quarter.
 
News and Notes
 
* Hayes led the Tigers with a 17-point performance on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, including 2-of-3 from deep range.  She was also a near perfect 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
 
* Senior Elizabeth Radley (Hainesport, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) also scored in double-figures as she came away with 16 points to go along with a team-high seven rebounds. 
 
* Jordan Vitelli scored a game-high 26 points for the Devils, while Ye added 22 points.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 42nd meeting between Holy Family and USciences since the start of the 2002-03 season.  The Tigers are now 29-13 versus the Devils in that span. 
 
Postseason Picture
Holy Family currently sits in second place in the CACC South Division and has already clinched a spot in next month's conference tournament.  The Tigers can secure a home quarterfinal game with a victory in one of their final two regular season contests.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 26 as the Tigers host Chestnut Hill in the final home regular season contest.  Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.  Prior to the game the Tigers will recognize their season class with a pregame ceremony in part of Senior Night festivities at the Campus Center Gymnasium.
