Tigers Keep Postseason Hopes Alive With Win Over Devils



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University men's basketball team kept its postseason hopes alive after coming away with an 89-84 victory at city rival University of the Sciences in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Wednesday night at Bobby Morgan Arena.

Game Recap
 
* In a game that featured 16 lead changes and 11 ties, a run by the Tigers in the final 1:26 turned out to be the difference.  Leading 82-81 with 1:33 to play, the Tigers scored seven unanswered points to put the game away. Senior Branden Aughburns (Queens, N.Y./The Canterbury School (Hampton Univ.)) converted a pair free throws followed by a clutch three-pointer
by sophomore Eric Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell Egan).  Freshman Jake McGonigle (Ocean City, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) capped the run with a pair of free throws of his own to give the Tigers an 89-81 lead.
 
* Prior to the Tigers' eight point lead in the final minute of the regulation, Holy Family led by as many as six points at the 12:34 mark of the first half.  Junior Brendan Hoban (Watertown, Mass./Millbrook) knocked down a three-pointer to give the Tigers the game's biggest lead in the first half at 17-11.
 
* Holy Family scored a season-high 89 points on the way to the victory.  The Tigers knocked down 10 three-pointers in the game and committed just 10 turnovers; third fewest on the season.
 
News and Notes
 
* Aughburns led all scorers with a game-high 28 points while shooting 11-of-16 from the field.  He also grabbed eight boards and finished with four blocks and two steals on defense.
 
* Sophomore Eric Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell Egan) recorded his eighth double-double of the season and second straight with an 18-point/13-rebound performance.  He also dished out six assists and finished with two blocks and two steals.
 
* Junior Devon Moore (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic (Merrimack College0) tallied double-digits with 11 points while leading the team with a season-high eight assists.
 
* Hoban came off the bench to finish with 19 points while collecting four rebounds and five assists.
 
* McGonigle totaled a season-high eight points to go along with six rebounds and four assists.
 
* Jordan White totaled 26 points to lead the Devils.  White shot 10-of-17 from the field to go along with nine rebounds.  Paddy Casey totaled 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists on the night.
 
Postseason Picture
Holy Family currently sits in fifth place in the CACC South Division with a 6-11 record.  With two games remaining in the regular season, the Tigers still have a chance to clinch the fourth and final postseason spot out of the South Division. Holy Family trails Georgian Court University (6-10) in the loss column. 
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 26 as the Tigers host Chestnut Hill College in the CACC contest.  Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. Prior to the game the Tigers will recognize their season class with a pregame ceremony in part of Senior Night festivities at the Campus Center Gymnasium.
