Tigers Fall to Griffins in Home Finale



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University men's basketball team suffered an 87-81 setback to city rival Chestnut Hill College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Wednesday night at the Campus Center Gymnasium in the final home game of the season.  Prior to the game, the Tigers recognize senior Branden Aughburns (Queens, N.Y./The Canterbury School (Hampton Univ.)) who was competing in his final contest at the Campus Center.

Game Recap
 
* In the final two minutes of the first half, Chestnut Hill tied the game at 35-35 after a three-pointer by Ahmad Bickley at the 1:55 mark.  Holy Family responded with nine straight points over the next 1:54 of action to grab a 44-35 lead.  Chestnut Hill managed to squeak out a pair of free throws with four-tenths of a second remaining to make the score 44-37 entering the locker rooms at halftime.
 
* Momentum didn't carry over into the second half for the Tigers as Chestnut Hill scored the first five points of the half, including an opening three-pointer by Bickley.  Holy Family maintained the lead early on in the half and led 50-44 before an 11-0 run by the Griffins.  Chestnut Hill grabbed a five-point lead at the 13:01 mark and never looked back.
 
* The Griffins led by as many as eight points multiple times after controlling the lead.  The Tigers came within four points with 1:10 to play after junior Devon Moore (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic (Merrimack College0) drained a three-pointer to make the score 77-73.  However, Chestnut Hill converted 10-of-10 from the free throw line in the final minute to ice the game.
 
News and Notes
 
* Aughburns put on a show in his final game inside the Campus Center as he finished with 29 points (12-22 FG) to go along with a career-high 19 rebounds. It's the most rebounds in a game by a single player since Jalen Thompson (Wilmington, Del./Concord (Harford C.C.)) recorded 18 boards versus Merrimack on Nov. 12, 2017.  Aughburns 19 rebounds are tied for second most in a single game in the program's Division II era. Bob Presner had 19 boards in a game during the 2004-05 season. Justin Swidoski recorded 20 rebounds on Dec. 30, 2009 versus Assumption College.
 
* Moore also scored 29 points setting a career-high as he knocked down 10-of-20 from the field, including six three-pointers.  He also grabbed six rebounds and recorded a pair of steals.
 
* Junior Brendan Hoban (Watertown, Mass./Millbrook) dished out a game-high 10 assists to go along with five points, four boards and four steals.
 
* Bickley edged out Aughburns and Moore for the game lead in scoring as he led the Griffins with 30 points.  He shot 8-of-14 from the field and was a near-perfect 10-of-11 from the free throw line.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 26th meeting between Holy Family and Chestnut Hill since the start of the 2007-08 season. The Tigers are now 18-8 versus the Griffins in the all-time series. 
 
Next Up
Holy Family will conclude the 2019-20 season on Saturday, Feb. 29 as the Tigers visit city rival Jefferson in CACC action.  Game time is set for 4 p.m.
